The American Film Institute honored legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer on Monday night in Hollywood with a huge multi-film event, culminating in the premiere of his latest release “THE PRINCE OF PERSIA”.

The tribute took over Hollywood Boulevard, closing off parts of the street and utilizing the famous Chinese and  El Capitan theatres as well as several of the Mann theatres next door.  Stars of some of Bruckheimer’s most successful films were on hand to introduce a screening of their films, which included “TOP GUN”, “NATIONAL TREASURE”, “BEVERLY HILLS COP”, and of course “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL”.

The El Capitan Theatre was the scene for the “PIRATES” screening which included an introduction by Director Gore Verbinski and stars Orlando Bloom  (Will Turner), Jack Davenport (Commodore Norrington), and Jonathan Pryce (Governor Swann).

Director Verbinski said that Bruckheimer attended every screening of “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL” before it came out.  Verbinski couldn’t figure out why he would want to see a film that many times but finally realized that Bruckheimer wasn’t watching the film, he was watching the audience.  “I think that is the reason for his success” Verbinski says, “he knows what the audience likes”.

Jack Davenport

Actor Jack Davenport , who plays Commodore Norrington in the films said he wanted to thank Jerry Bruckheimer for “dressing me up like a Mardi Gras parade float” while veteran actor Jonathan Pryce joked that he, Davenport, and Bloom ” are not in PIRATES 4″.
