It was inevitable that PETA would be upset by the new Static Cycle video for “Inside This World of Mine” featuring Bristol Palin.  Here we have a quote from Bristol Palin, a statement from PETA and Static Cycle’s rebuttal. This is an excellent  song that should not be lost in the controversy.

As the daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Bristol was thrust into the spot light without be asked. It is difficult to remember that she is not a politician and not as sophisticated as her mom.

So how was she chosen for the video? “Well, they’re from Alaska and they (Static Cycle) needed someone to wear a mink hat and a mink coat, and I went down there and I wore the mink hat and the mink coat.” And, seeing that the Palin family goes moose hunting, it seems the band assumed Bristol wouldn’t have an issue wearing mink as some celebrities might. PETA

This is PETA’s statement to CFM:

Bristol Palin is desperate for attention, and there’s no better way to get attention—albeit bad attention—than to wear fur. Animals on fur farms are suffocated, poisoned, gassed, and anally or vaginally electrocuted. Many often “wake up” while their skin is being ripped off their bodies. In the 21st century, people can choose to be cruel or kind. With so many fashionable, comfortable, and warm options available today, there is no excuse for wearing any animal’s fur.

STATIC CYCLE

In response to the criticism that Bristol Palin has received this week from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for wearing a Mink fur coat and hat in the music video of Alaskan rock-band Static Cycle for their new single “Inside This World of Mine” frontman Jared Navarre was offended.

“This country was founded by living off the land” he says. “And that tradition continues here in Alaska where many still hunt for food and clothing, fish, clear trees for lumber for houses, and drill oil to run the economy. We chose a fur coat for Bristol as a natural way to help portray her role as ‘mother nature’ – nothing synthetic. A nylon jumpsuit obviously would not have represented Alaska or the role. Bristol is of Alaska Native heritage and it’s culturally insensitive for PETA to come to Alaska and tell us what to wear.”

Regarding PETA Navarre adds, “For those who complain about using animals for food or to stay warm, I would like to challenge their convictions by dropping them off stark naked in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness and see what they do to survive!”

Rhythmic power alt-rock trio Static Cycle has been burning up the indie music scene in Anchorage, Alaska since 2007, rocking everything from local clubs to the Egan Convention Center. Over the past two years, the band has not only become the biggest band in Alaska, but also a nationally recognized act, touring 14 states in the U.S. (including dates in New York, Boston, Denver and L.A.) and sharing stages with major artists Daughtry, Drowning Pool, Seether, Puddle of Mudd, Eve6, Emery and 36 Crazyfists. The band recently brought its explosive mix of rock, hip-hop, R&B, pop and world music to headline the Alaska State Fair, a 12 day event whose lineup included Collective Soul, Shinedown, Kenny Rogers, Lonestar and Boyz II Men.
