Rumor has it that David Tennant has been cast to play Sindarin Elf Thranduil King of Mirkwood , the father of Legolas (Orlando Bloom).  IMDB.com has reported but no confirmed that Tennant who was formerly in the running for the role of Bilbo Baggins has been given the role.

There could also be a second Time Lord in the movie! Sylvester McCoy was the Seventh Doctor, and he has been offered but not accepted the role of Radagast the Brown.

Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.

The Hobbit: Part 1 opens  November 2012 and stars Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Ken Stott, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan and Orlando Bloom.
