Author’s note: I did inquire about the possible collagen rumor but have received no response.

Following in the footsteps of Jersey Shores Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino the AFLAC duck has taken to referring to himself  as “The Beak”. Best known for his work as spokesduck for AFLAC, a company named one of the best 100 companies to work for, “The Beak” has come under scrutiny for what appears to be a changed beak.

“The Beak” carefully deflected questions from reporters about possible cosmetic procedures he may have had done recently. Each question was answered by talking about one of his favorite subjects Beads of Courage Beads of Courage is a program “providing innovative, arts-in-medicine supportive care programs for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them.” Ducks throughout history have been known for the work they do to help children and AFLAC was quick to support “The Beak’s” interest in Beads of Courage.

Jean Baruch, developed the first Beads of Courage, Inc. program while working on her PhD in Nursing at the University of Arizona, College of Nursing. Her inspiration came from her clinical practice, and from her experiences as a camp nurse at one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camps. With the financial support of her family and friends, Jean developed and piloted the Beads of Courage Program at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in February 2004.

Go to AFLAC’s Beads of Courage page where you can support a child for only $5.00! Each seriously ill child will receive a Wingman Bead and the Encouragement Book.

“Your donation will remind a child that they are never flying solo, and that they have people standing beside them in their fight for life.”

AFLAC’s Wingman Bead was fashioned using  “The Beak” as their model.
