Author Alan Finn is releasing his new novel “Things Half In Shadow” on December 30th just in time for all of those post-holiday flights and days off.

Set in post Civil War Philadelphia, the story follows Edward Clark, a newspaper crime reporter with a questionable past.  Clark is happy working the crime beat and spending time with his well-to-do fiancee until his boss gives him an assignment to write a series of exposes on the city’s mediums and expose them for the frauds that everyone connected with the newspaper knows them to be.  Somewhat reluctantly, Clark joins forces with a shady medium – the beautiful, young Lucy Collins – in an effort to expose the cities other mediums and their tricks.

Finn’s writing is very descriptive and immerses the reader immediately into the world of nineteenth-century Philadelphia.  The characters are well sketched out and engaging and the book is so well written that one can become lost in the story and lose track of time.  “Things Half In Shadow” offers something for fans of many different genres – History, Paranormal, Supernatural, Crime and Magic are all explored throughout the story.  Many authors who touch on Paranormal subjects often treat them with a level of disdain that is nowhere to be found in Finn’s writing.

The book has a feel that reminded this reader of Sarah Pinborough’s novel “Mayhem” and even slightly of the television program “Ripper Street” with its ability to draw the reader into another time and place. I think everyone who picks up this book will be very pleased that they did.

“Things Half In Shadow” will be released in both paperback and ebook form on December 30th from Gallery Books.  Check your local book seller or Amazon.com for more info.

Going through withdrawals after last night’s series finale of Sons of Anarchy? Soon you will be able to play the Sons of Anarchy Interactive Game!

Orpheus Interactive today confirmed a partnership with Fox Digital Entertainment on the development of an interactive game, Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect, the existence of which was previously teased by show creator and Executive Producer Kurt Sutter.

The first episode of Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect sets the stage for a brand new way to take in the Sons of Anarchy universe. Fans of the wildly popular TV series, which wrapped up its seventh and final season on FX yesterday, will have a chance to explore an original story, location and previously unknown chapter of the motorcycle club. The interactive, episode-based game takes players on a new ride, with additional episodes becoming available on an ongoing basis. In keeping with the world Sutter has created, this extension of the mythology gives fans a chance to experience the treachery, graphic action, intrigue and life and death decision making they have come to anticipate from the show.

Orpheus, a freshly-formed Canadian game studio comprised of game development talent with multiple blockbusters under their belts, acquired the rights to make a game using the Sons of Anarchy license in 2013. They’ve enlisted the help of Silverback Games, another Canadian developer known for their story- driven games, and together have teamed up with Kurt Sutter and his creative team to make Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect an experience that is both compelling to players and faithful to the show.

Sutter Tweeted earlier this year that “I cannot give you any more details, but I will tell you that there will definitely be an SOA game…and it’s pretty f**king awesome.“

The first episode of Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect is coming in early 2015 to mobile phones and tablets worldwide.

NEW YORK — December 2, 2014 — NBC joins forces with multi-platinum band One Direction for “One Direction: The TV Special,” a prime time musical event set for Tuesday, Dec. 23 (8-9 p.m. ET).

One Direction’s first U.S. network special will offer a rare inside look at the wildly popular band through a combination of documentary material, comical stunts and musical performances. The special features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the South American leg of their 2014 “Where We Are Tour” and follows the band as they recorded their new #1 album, “FOUR,” on the road.  Viewers will also experience One Direction’s music as they stage a special intimate concert for lucky fans at Universal Orlando Resort, where the band performs a selection of songs from “FOUR” as well as some of the biggest hits off their three previous albums. The hour-long telecast also finds the boys giving unsuspecting fans the shock of their lives by introducing themselves in disguise at the theme parks, as well as the band mates interviewing each other aboard a high-speed roller coaster.

FROM ONE DIRECTION — “We’re really proud of our first TV Special. We had a great time filming the different parts both in Orlando and on the road in South America. We can’t wait for our fans to see it.”

One Direction — composed of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — formed in 2010 on the U.K.’s award-winning TV talent show “The X Factor.” The group’s debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” was released in September 2011 and went straight to #1 in the U.K., with their first album, “Up All Night,” following suit and also topping the Billboard album chart in the U.S. The release of their second album, “Take Me Home,” took One Direction to #1 in 37 countries. Their third album, “Midnight Memories,” was announced as the biggest selling album globally of 2013. The band has sold more than 46 million records worldwide and is the recipient of four BRIT Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and seven MTV Europe Music Awards. They have a massive 109 million Twitter followers and 33 million Facebook fans. One Direction’s fourth #1 studio album, “FOUR” was released on Nov. 17 and features hit singles “Steal My Girl” and “Night Changes.” The album made Billboard history as the only group in the 58-year history of the chart to see their first four albums debut at number one.

The band will also make their third appearance on “Saturday Night Live” as musical guest December 20.

Last month, NBC Universal and One Direction announced an unprecedented and expansive cross-platform partnership for the global launch of “FOUR.”

UK based production company, Fulwell 73, will produce the special, with One Direction longtime collaborator Ben Winston as executive producer, Jim Parsons, Colin Hopkins, David Soutar and Lee Lodge as producers and Chris Howe as director.

AMC President Charlie Collier issued a statement that said “It’s a dead man’s party. Who could ask for more? The pilot episode of the new series The Flash was held in Hall H on Saturday the 26th. The pilot covered the origin story of Barry Allen becoming the Flash through typical S.T.A.R. Lab malfunctions and a dash of lightning, bringing him super speed. The downside, however, is that it also caused other “meta-humans” to start showing their powers as well. The pilot episode encompassed Barry Allen and his life before the Flash and then allows us to begin the journey with him as he finds out his new found potential.

The cast and crew not only appeared at an autograph session that was meant to be only a hour long, but they stayed for nearly two hours to sign for all those fans in attendance that had a wristband. Grant Gustin (Barry Allen), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), Candice Patton (Iris West), Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells), John Wesley Shipp (Henry Allen), Jesse L Martin (Detective Joe West) and executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg were there signing and meeting fans, only to rush to the screening to stay for an extended 30 minutes for a Q&A afterwards. The Flash airs on CW  on October 7th.

The cast of The Legend of Korra were at San Diego Comic Con this year with a panel and two signings. The cast included Janet Varney (Korra), Dave Faustino (Mako), John Michael Higgins (Varrick), Mindy Sterling (Lin Beifong), Seychelle Gabriel (Asami) and Dee Bradley Baker (The voice of all animals on the show). The creators, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino both put to rest the rumors of the shows cancellation and explained this new scheduling of the show. Korra will no longer be airing on television, but Nickelodeon has agreed to continue streaming the show online.

korra4

Starting on Friday August 8th at noon the episodes began airing weekly on the site. There are still more things to work out, but it seems like it will also still be available on Amazon Prime to Prime members. With Book Three nearly finished, the concerns about Book Four were raised and quickly dismissed as that was part of Nick’s deal, take it off the air but it will all be shown online. Fans cheered and were treated with a sneak peek at last Friday’s episode before it aired.

korra3 korra2

After the panel of Friday the cast, minus Seychelle who had to catch a flight, went to the Nickelodeon booth to sign for fans. The cast signed for over three hours for more than 250 fans! When asked, all of them explained that they feared that, with the shows schedule change, this might be the last con and so they wanted to make the most of it. And they really did, because they returned on Saturday for another two hours.

Hunky New Zealand Actor Karl Urban made his second appearance at this year’s Star Trek Convention put on by Creation Entertainment at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Urban, who plays Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek reboot films directed by J.J. Abrams signed autographs, posed for photo ops and spoke to a packed crowd in the convention’s huge ballroom.

The actor took questions from fans about the next Star Trek film, which he was unable to say much about due to the secrecy surrounding the project and his recent turn on the now defunct television show “Almost Human”.

Urban said that he imagines with the success of the recent films,  he wouldn’t be surprised if they made it into a tv show sometimes soon.  A fan asked if he would be on the show if that happened and he said he was definitely open to the idea.  He also spoke about his love for the “Doctor Who” franchise and he actually called producers a few years ago and said “I love the show, can I be on it?”.  Unfortunately due to his shooting schedule for “Dredd” at the time, he was unable to do it but would still love to be on the show.

Karl also spoke about on-set pranks that he has been a part of, including the now-famous “neutron cream” prank played by Chris Pine and Simon Pegg on the cast during the filming of “Star Trek: Into Darkness”.  He also told the story of how he pranked “Lord of the Rings” co-star Viggo Mortensen by telling press in Spain that Viggo had purchased a goat farm and was going to make goat cheese.  The next day when Viggo spoke to the same press people, they didn’t want to talk about his film, they all wanted to know about the goat farm!  Urban said this was payback for a prank that Viggo had played on him 10 years prior during “Lord of the Rings.”  He advised Chris Pine and Simon Pegg to watch out because “I’m coming for you.”

Comic Con 2014 started off with a lot of star power on Thursday with a panel for the highly-anticipated animated film “Penguins of Madagascar”.  Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich were on-hand to answer questions from fans about their characters and the differences between acting on-screen versus doing a voice-over.

When asked how different it was recording in a voice studio from being on a film set, Cumberbatch said that the radio work and audiobook recordings that he has done in the past helped to prepare him for the role in “Penguins”.  Both Cumberbatch and Malkovich said that the biggest difference between a film set and a voice over shoot is that often times they don’t get to meet or be in the same room with the other actors until they are doing press for the film, and you don’t build the same type of camaraderie that you do on a film set.

Fans were also curious to know who Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich would like to play from the comic book world.

“Lois Lane?” says Malkovich.  “Nurse Normal?”  which got a big response from the crowd in Hall H.
“Anyone?” says Cumberbatch.  “Doctor Strange joke,” he mutters.  The attendees go wild and Cumberbatch  and Cumberbatch follows up with “Batman, I guess, yeah.”
