Not one but two previously unknown subspecies of Vermilion Flycatcher songbirds have been identified by researchers on the Galápagos Islands. Normally, this would be seen as fantastic news.  Unfortunately, the newly-discovered San Cristóbal Island Vermilion Flycatcher – the smaller of the two – has not been seen since 1987.
