Tyrants in Therapy CD Review

The Tyrant Michael, Writer/Producer/Singer and AbbeAbbe, Writer/Producer/Singer

The Tyrant Michael, Writer/Producer/Singer and AbbeAbbe, Writer/Producer/Singer

The Tyrant’s in Therapy cd  High Class Trash is a large body of work that covers just about every aspect of the human condition in styles that range from calypso to country to a song Crosby, Stills Nash and Young could have written.

There are 21 songs on High Class Trash, told you it is a large body of work. Track 17 and 18 are listed incorrectly on the insert and oddly when the song comes up on the player it has the correct name for the song on insert but a different song plays.

Meet Sacramento Band Prylosis

Sacramento band Prylosis

Sacramento band Prylosis

This is an interview that is long past due. My computer crashed loosing the interview and the photos from the night. I found notes written in the dark of a bar, under the influence…not the best way to write notes. So with my bad notes and spotty memory here is an interview with one of the best bands around.

Carl was kind enough to make following  correction for me. Thanks Carl.    “Our former bass player was training to be a fireman, and mispronounced the word ‘pyrolysis’ by saying ‘Prylosis.’ We all thought it was a cool sounding name so it stuck, even though it had no meaning. Later on, we disected the word and the closest meaning we could put to it was with the latin origin ‘Pry’-being ahead in rank, and ‘osis’-the condition of… so with those two put together it makes the meaning roughly “The condition ofbeing   ahead a rank.” So it kind of worked out.”

Theory of Flight CD Review

When I receive a press release from one of the publicist I work with I notify the band on MySpace or where ever I can find a contact. This lets them know that the release is on the website and usually I will ask a question or two. Theory Of Flight  has the distinction of  being  the only band that did not acknowledge my note to them on MySpace.  And yes they read it. (Look in your MySpace sent folder and it will say when a message has been read.)  Once a friend jokingly asked me to contact Kevin Bacon about a show, I did and got a polite, “No”. I didn’t even get a “fuck you” from Theory of Flight. They are without a doubt the rudest band I have come across in the four years I have been doing reviews.

Whitney Houston’s new album “I Look To You” is due to hit the stores August 31, 2009.  The title track can be downloaded on whitneyhouston.com. Links are available for US and international fans.

I Look To You available in stores August 31, 2009

I Look To You available in stores August 31, 2009

The last time I saw Whitney Houston my heart was broken.  I actually thought she was a man in drag. She was too thin and looked unhealthy.

If you go to whitneyhouston.com you will see a YouTube clip of a beautiful, rested healthy Whitney Houtson. “I Look To You” debuted to a roomful of enthusiastic celebrities that welcomed Houston back with her new album.

The familiar voice is more mature and doesn’t  hit the soaring heights it once did.  None the less if you are a Houston fan you won’t be disappointed. Her voice is still rich and beautiful.  “I Look To You” written by R.Kelly is a perfect way for Houston to give us insight into how she has struggled to made her way back to her fans.

At the risk of making you groan I must end this by saying that with “I Look To You” Whitney Houston has unbroken my heart. The beautiful, vibrant woman we fell in love with is back and with all of us behind her here to stay.

FOCUS’ AFRICA FIRST PROGRAM CLOSING 2009 ENTRY PERIOD MONDAY, AUGUST 17th; $10,000 IN FINANCING APIECE EARMARKED FOR 5 NEW FILMMAKERS

FOCUS’ AFRICA FIRST PROGRAM

NEW YORK, July 28th, 2009 – Following the success of last year’s inaugural program, Focus Features is accepting entries for a second year of its Africa First Program through Monday, August 17th (please note newly extended deadline). The uniquely conceived initiative, with funds earmarked specifically for emerging filmmakers of African nationality and residence, offers eligible and participating filmmakers the chance to be awarded $10,000 in financing for pre-production, production, and/or post-production on their narrative short film made in continental Africa and tapping into the resources of the film industry there. Complete details on Africa First – including application information – can be accessed through www.filminfocus.com/africafirst.

Launched in 2008, Africa First last fall awarded $10,000 apiece to five winning filmmakers; Mr. Edouard Bamporiki (from Rwanda), Ms. Jenna Bass (from South Africa), Mr. Jan-Hendrik Beetge (also from South Africa), Ms. Dyana Gaye (from Senegal), and Ms. Wanuri Kahiu (from Kenya). Their short films are, respectively, Long Coat, a drama about a young Hutu coming to terms with Rwanda’s and his own family’s past; The Tunnel, a 1980s-set story centering around a 10-year-old girl’s quest; The Abyss Boys, a thriller about an illegal trade in a small fishing town; the public transportation musical N’Dar [Saint Louis Blues]; and Pumzi [Breath], a futuristic sci-fi tale. Cathy-Anne McClintock CD Review

Cathy-AnneMcClintockWriting music reviews can be little over whelming and can make you feel like you are slogging through mud. There is always a pile of CD containing envelopes on my desk.

In those envelopes you will find garnets, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and pearls. If you are like me there are a few you will say you don’t have time to review. Those are the reviews you can’t bring yourself to write. An honest review would be, “someone should have loved you enough to say don’t record that”.

Then it happens you open the envelope pop in the CD and you hear an exquisite voice.  You realize you have fished a perfect diamond out of that envelope pile. In this case it is the voice of Cathy-Anne McClintock.
