Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park Sales Director Matt Spencer raises $3,449 for muscular dystrophy victims

MATT SPENCER “Without the support of my friends and family, I would not have been able to achieve my goal. I would like to challenge everyone to give from their heart when they can because we never know when one of our own family members might need assistance.”

SPIRIT OF THE SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK, LIVE OAK, FLA –

Not only does Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) Sales Director Matt Spencer enjoy his job, he loves to help others! And, that’s exactly what he did recently when he volunteered to “go to jail” to raise money to help North Florida victims of muscular dystrophy.

Not only did Matt spend time in the “lock-up” at the Dixie Grill Restaurant in downtown Live Oak, Fla where the Muscular Dystrophy Association lockup fund-raiser was held June 30, but he raised more money than any of the other local business leaders who swallowed their pride and were “arrested” for this good cause. Matt’s final tally – $3,449! “I was asked to be a part of this worthwhile cause and was more than happy to oblige,” Matt said after the event. He added that even though he had advance notice about the event, he was out of town several weeks and had only a short amount of time to put into the fund-raising

Matt’s boss, SOSMP CEO/President James Cornett, said he is very proud to have an employee who not only does a great job on a day to day basis for the SOSMP selling park models and memberships, but feels compassion for others around him and gets involved in the community. “Matt Spencer is a credit not only to the SOSMP, but to the Suwannee County and North Florida community,” Cornett stated.

“I can sympathize with anyone dealing with muscular dystrophy and the difficulties in getting the proper care needed to treat them the best way possible,” Matt said. “I had the pleasure of meeting some of the local kids who have muscular dystrophy, and they were very appreciative of the efforts of those who raised money,” Matt said. “This money will provide them with the best care possible.”

Matt stressed that although he actually made phone calls and contacts to raise the money, he had lots of help in this worthy project. “Without the support of my friends and family, I would not have been able to achieve my goal. I would like to challenge everyone to give from their heart when they can because we never know when one of our own family members might need assistance.”

While Matt was busy working to raise dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, several dozen other local business people were also hard at work. “I was amazed at the effort everyone put into this,” Matt said. Together, these enthusiastic business leaders in Suwannee County raised thousands of dollars in 2010 to help local victims of muscular dystrophy.
