Torchwood: Miracle Day

Below is a link to a brand-new teaser for highly anticipated STARZ series, “Torchwood: Miracle Day” premiering on Friday, July 8 at 10pm ET/PT:

Series 4 of Torchwood, called Miracle Day, featuring Bill Pullman and Mekhi Phifer as well as John Barrowman and Eve Myles (stars of the original BBC cult favorite), begins with a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging, they get hurt and sick, but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson (Phifer) investigates a global conspiracy.  The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking

“What is Torchwood?” he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

River Song debuted in the fourth series two-parter ‘Silence in the Library’/‘Forest of Death’ and shocked the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) by revealing a great knowledge of his future. The character has since returned in Matt Smith’s inaugural series and in last Saturday’s episode ‘The Impossible Astronaut’.

“When I first did Doctor Who with David Tennant, I wasn’t expecting that at all,” she admitted. “As far as I was concerned, it was just a two-episode story arc with me being held forever in a computer, or whatever. But Steven always intended that she would come back.”

The actress also sad her favorite aspect of portraying the professor, whose identity is shrouded in ambiguity, is that the various incarnations of The Doctor never meet River in chronological order.

“The really exciting journey for me, and for Steven, is backtracking. The characters keep missing each other,” Kingston added. “She’s like The Time Traveler’s Wife. In this particular season, and certainly in the first two episodes, what you see is her knowing that she’s on the brink of the moment where the Doctor doesn’t know any more who she is. And I think that’s just tragic, really.”

Be prepared to have Kingston and River Song to break our hearts.

SHOWCASING THE BEST OF RECENT MEXICAN CINEMA,

THE 2011 EDITION OF THE HOLA MEXICO FILM FESTIVAL

ARRIVES IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA WITH THE THEME:

MEXICO, A PLACE LIKE THE MOVIES!

The Opening Night Screening of the festival features the now legendary red carpet with Hollywood and Mexican film stars, and the USA Premiere of ACORAZADO, a film directed by Álvaro Curiél

The 2011 Hola Mexico Film Festival takes place at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood, California on May 19th-25th

Los Angeles, California (April 20, 2011) – The 2011 Hola Mexico Film Festival (HMFF) arrives for the third consecutive year to Los Angeles, California, bringing a sample of the exciting Mexican film industry of recent years and showcasing its rich diversity. HMFF offers a selection of 9 narrative and 3 documentary feature films by Mexican film production companies and directors, including 3 USA premieres and 5 Los Angeles Premieres. The 2011 Hola Mexico Film Festival takes place at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood, California on May 19th-25th. See www.holamexicoff.com for more information.

Mexico has always been a country of contrasts, a land where the incredible happens every day.  Some of the most gorgeous places in the world are in Mexico, but the county also has many unresolved problems. Nowadays, Mexico is a place like the movies! The Hola Mexico Film Festival showcases reality as seen through the eyes of the talented Mexican film directors. Mexico, a place like the movies! (¡México está de película!) is the theme of the 2011 edition of HMFF and celebrates the contrasting multiple faces and the reality of Mexico, from the landscapes and history to the human experience in terms of class, economic status, sexual diversity, age and dreams. The reality of Mexico indeed, can be explained by its recent films.

The Hola Mexico Film Festival in Los Angeles starts on Thursday, May 19th with the USA premiere screening of Acorazado, directed by Álvaro Curiél; with acting performances by Silverio Palacios and Laura de la Luz. Filmed in Cuba and Mexico, the film tells the odyssey of unemployed Silverio Palacios who leaves Mexico in search of the American Dream. Convinced that it’s nearly impossible to cross the border like everyone else, he impersonates a Cuban refugee and sails to Miami on a handmade raft! To his surprise, instead of reaching Miami, he arrives in Cuba but the island is not ready for the witty and crafty Mexican. Winner of the Morelia Film Festival Audience Award, the film masterfully generates both laughter and reflection. The opening night of HMFF also features a red carpet that has become legendary for its A-list celebrities participating. It is the night where stars of Mexican Cinema including those living and working in Hollywood,  Hollywood actors and starts in Latin music come together to celebrate the best works in Mexican Cinema.

Among the highlights of HMFF, Carlos Carrera’s new film DE LA INFANCIA (FROM CHILDHOOD) and EL INFIERNO (HELL) by Luis Estrada, starting: Damian Alcazar and Joaquin Cosio; make their USA Premiere. The festival will also have directors and actors from selected films as special guests to present their work and offer Q&A sessions after the screenings.

HMFF Director and Founder, Samuel Douek said: “I envisioned a much more ambitious program for 2011, beyond just screening great quality films, the festival will join forces with various non-profit organizations and each will receive a significant amount of tickets to fundraise for their specific causes.” He continued: “The Hola Mexico Film Festival will showcase a celebration of Mexican Cinema while making a positive difference in the lives of Mexicans and Latinos in Southern California.”

The nonprofit organizations confirmed to participate to date are: Peace over Violence – with a new project that helps undocumented and immigrant Latinas emerge from domestic abuse, Homeboy Industries – Works to reincorporate youth into society with job training and job opportunities, Mujeres de la tierra – A women’s group that seeks to protect the environment and increase green spaces in south central LA, The Wall Las Memorias Project – is dedicated to promoting wellness and preventing illness among Latino populations affected by HIV/AIDS by using the inspiration of The AIDS Monument as a catalyst for social change, Frijoliwood – provides opportunities for Latin filmmakers in the US entertainment industry, Anahuak Youth Sports Association – It provides sports programs and activities to children in low income households, William C. Velasquez Institute – The Institute seeks to increase the politic and economic participation of Latinos in the USA, The Los Angeles Youth Network – Empowers abused, neglected and homeless adolescents to become self-sufficient, UCLA Latino/a Caucus – It hosts the Social Services in the Latino/a Community Conference, Bilingual Foundation of the Arts It presents classic Spanish language drama and contemporary plays on Hispanic themes to English and Spanish speaking audiences, Bienestar – the agency offers health and well-being programs for the Latino community and other underserved communities and, Nosotros – It serves as an incubator to help Latinos who are pursuing a career in the Entertainment Industry.

Another noticeable change this year that gives the moviegoers a better festival experience is the new venue: the Ricardo Montalban Theatre will become the Temple of Mexican Cinema; going beyond the movies and into the land of Tequila, Beer, and Mexican food. The theater is located at 1615 Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA 90028. The HMFF in Loa Angeles runs from May 19th to 25th of 2011. Tickets are $9.00 for all screenings and can be purchased online at www.holamexicoff.com and at the theater box office. Deeply discounted tickets will also be made available at FAMSA stores across Los Angeles.

The 2011 Hola Mexico Film Festival is sponsored by LA WEEKLY, Pantelion Films, Tequila Milagro, La Opinion, Exitos 93.9, The Walt Disney Company, Dish Latino, CINE LATINO, Mexico Tourism Board, and SECRETARÍA DE RELACIONES EXTERIORES DE MÉXICO

Doctor Who's Catherine Tate and David Tennant are appear in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing
Deadline has the story:

Catherine Tate, who played Tennant’s mouthy companion Donna in the BBC sci-fi show, will play opposite the Doctor Who star in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. It’s the first time the 2 have appeared on stage together, although they get on famously. On stage they will be playing lovers who are pretty much extensions of their Doctor Who roles: Benedick and Beatrice’s endless witty sparring threatens to keep them apart forever. Much Ado opens at Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End on June 1. Tate can currently be seen in the Jack Black comedy Gulliver’s Travels.

Marc Caruso, Sean Harrison, Allison Wright Clark and Mario Davis have officially launched Angry Mob, a Santa Monica-based music publishing and licensing company that maintains one of the most eclectic modern music catalogs in the industry tailored to film, television and interactive game production.

Angry Mob will connect its new, emerging and established musicians to national and international brands, as well as work with music supervisors and music editors for film and television placement of the artist’s songs.

Highly regarded and respected in the film and television industry, the founding team of the “Mob” not only have more than a collective 30 years of experience in music supervision, production, editing and composition, but are also strongly united in the long-term career development of their artists. It is a stance that has already attracted many songwriters to the young but ambitious company.

“Our motivation for forming Angry Mob came from a need to showcase talented songwriters and performers who may have been overlooked by major music publishing houses, and using new, modern-day methods that haven’t quite been effectively tapped before” said Marc Caruso, Head of Licensing & Administration. “We are focused on the artist, and we want to be their powerful springboard. We’re called Angry Mob for a reason, because we’re willing to fight for their well-deserved exposure, and we recognize the inherent capabilities and power of the determined collective vs. that of the individual.”

Singers and songwriters who have joined the Angry Mob family thus far include: renaissance singer-songwriter Ken Christianson; vulnerable yet strong Sarah Hethcoat; big band leader and film orchestrator Ladd McIntosh and his Swing Orchestra; indie-folk musician Chris Potter and his latest project The–M•rse–C•des; Americana master John Pringle; retro-focused and Black Eyed Peas writer Hiram Riemmer; young troubadour Tom Schraeder; and the energetic songwriting duo of Todd Spahr and Rob Mailhouse of Spärhusen fame.

The diversity of Angry Mob’s founders spans all facets of the music industry. Caruso is an accomplished music editor, and has worked as a composer and sound mixer. While at Media Ventures, the LA native received an Emmy nomination for his work on Tom Clancy’s “Net Force.” Caruso will serve as head of Licensing & Administration, and will find opportunities for artists and work with producers to find the perfect music for their projects.

Harrison’s specialty is creating music-related promotions for recording artists with national and international brands. Prior to joining the “Mob”, he worked as an independent entertainment branding consultant. Harrison will head up marketing, and will also focus on music publishing and licensing between the clients and their eager, well-matched and complimentary brands.

Wright Clark has music supervised dozens of film and television projects such as, “Welcome to the Rileys,” and the CBS drama series, “The Good Wife.” With a finger always on the pulse of the music industry, she will fulfill head of Artist &Repertoire, and will help incubate new artists into the “Mob” family.

Davis’ vast music experience includes independent radio promotion, artist development, artist management, consulting, marketing and branding. Davis will direct A&R, and will be on the constant but scrutinized lookout for promising new talent.

Angry Mob plans on holding a launch event and concert showcase soon, and will proliferate their presence with several industry exposures throughout the year. For more information, visit the company’s debut website at www.angrymobmusic.com

The new series of Doctor Who begins soon with a two-parter that ranks as one of the show’s most mind-blowing and visually arresting adventures ever.

Details are beginning to emerge about the story and we’ve got brief details of the episodes below. We’ve kept it brief, but as River might say, ‘Spoilers!’

Episode 1: The Impossible Astronaut

Four envelopes, numbered 2, 3 and 4, each containing a date, time and map reference, unsigned, but TARDIS blue. Who sent them? And who received the missing number one? This strange summons reunites the Doctor, Amy, Rory and River Song in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible secret the Doctor’s friends must never reveal to him.

Placing his life entirely in their hands, the Doctor agrees to search for the recipient of the fourth envelope – just who is Canton Everett Delaware the Third? And what is the relevance of their only other clue: ‘Space 1969’? Their quest lands them – quite literally – in the Oval Office, where they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former-FBI agent Canton, in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious spaceman.

Episode 2: Day of the Moon

The Doctor is locked in the perfect prison. Amy, Rory and River Song are being hunted down across America by the FBI. With the help of new friend and FBI-insider, Canton Everett Delaware the Third, our heroes are reunited to share their discoveries, if not their memories. For the world is occupied by an alien force who control humanity through post-hypnotic suggestion and no one can be trusted. Aided by President Nixon and Neil Armstrong’s foot, the Doctor must mount a revolution to drive out the enemy and rescue the missing little girl. No-one knows why they took her. Or why they have kidnapped Amy Pond…

We’ll be bringing you more about those and future episodes soon, but in the meantime you can download the latest new series image as a wallpaper. Steven Moffat, Doctor Who‘s lead writer and Executive Producer discusses Doctor Who Series 6

05th Apr 2011

How has this series evolved from last year?

Steven Moffat: Well we’ve moved through the funfair a bit – we’ve done the rollercoaster, now we’re on the ghost train. Last year, in a way, was all about saying, don’t worry, it’s still him, it’s still the same show, nothing’s really been lost. Losing a leading man like David Tennant is seismic – unless you gain a leading man like Matt Smith. It’s been the biggest joy to see him stride in and just claim that TARDIS for his own. But now he’s really here, and the part is his, and the bow tie is cool, he’s ready to lead us places we didn’t know existed. Last year we reassured you – this year, to hell with that, we’re going to worry the hell out of you. How well do we really know that man, or what he’s capable of? We’re putting the Who? back in the Doctor.
Is there a major story arc to look out for?

Oh, there’s a big story being told this year, and major mysteries from the very off. As ever, in this show, the stories all stand alone, and every episode is a perfect jumping-on point for a new viewer. But at the same time the over-arching plot will be a bigger player this year. More than hints and whispers – we’re barely ten minutes into episode one before our heroes face a dilemma that they’ll be staring at months from now. And there will be no easy answers.
Will there be new monsters?

They’re … scary. Very scary. And, ohh, I don’t want to say more – there’s the Silence in 1 & 2, the Siren, in episode 3, the Gangers in 5 & 6, all these are more than just freaky costumes and masks; there are SCARY ideas here. And just wait till you meet Idris in episode 4.
Is this series scarier than the last one?

See above. Yes, I think so. But it’s not JUST scary – it’s funny and moving and revelling in its own insanity too.
How have the characters evolved?

The big difference, I suppose, is how long the Doctor is hanging around in the lives of his Companions. His normal MO is get them while they’re young, and leave them while they’re young too. He’s careful to put them back where he found them, before he screws up their lives. But here he is, married couple on board – and much as he loves them both, he does wonder if it isn’t time he got out of the way. Before something really BAD happens.
What can you tell us about the cliff-hanger at the end of episode 7?

Normally our cliff-hangers are lives being threatened. With this one, three live are changed FOREVER.

Big thanks to Steven Moffat for discussing the new series. Don’t forget you can read more about the opening two-parter and watch the Prequel for The Impossible Astronaut now. Later today we’ll be bringing you the thoughts of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill – alias the Doctor, Amy and Rory – as they gear up for the return of Doctor Who!   Source BBC

BBC is blocking this video for America on their website so it might be taken down. No spoilers.

As Christopher Isherwood reported, 'Berlin meant Boys'. But while the camp of Cabaret or Alexander Doetsch's steely pecs in the recent BBC Christopher and His Kind give a pleasant gloss to the young Berliner, the truth is …
