Elijah Wood joined co-stars of the hit new FX show “Wilfred” for an autograph signing at the 2011 Comic Con in San Diego.

Wilfred is a half-hour, live-action comedy about “Ryan,” a young man struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world until he forms a unique friendship with “Wilfred,” his neighbor’s canine pet. Everyone else sees Wilfred as just a dog, but Ryan sees a crude and somewhat surly, yet irrepressibly brave and honest, Australian bloke in a cheap dog suit. While leading him through a series of comedic and existential adventures, Wilfred the dog shows Ryan the man how to overcome his fears and joyfully embrace the unpredictability and insanity of the world around him.

“Wilfred” airs on Thursday at 10pm on FX.

Ryan Kwanten

The Stars of HBO’s smash success “True Blood” visited the Warner Bros. booth on the exhibit floor of the 2011 Comic Con in San Diego for a huge autograph signing.  Fans lined up for hours to pull out a ticket to see if they had won a wristband to participate in the signing.  Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten, Stephen Moyer, Kevin Alejandro, Kristen Bauer Van Straten, Alexander Skarsgard, Deborah Ann Woll, Rutina Wesley and Nelsan Ellis all made it a very special day for fans who were lucky enough to receive a ticket to the signing.

Nelsan Ellis

There was major gridlock around the booth as those who didn’t score a wristband were trying to get a glimpse of their faves.  The signing continued for over an hour and the stars greeted hundreds of fans.

The "Ghost Adventures" Crew

The stars of the hit Travel Channel show “Ghost Adventures” were on hand in San Diego doing double duty during Comic Con this year.  Besides 3 days of highly successful autograph signings, the trio filmed one of their lockdown investigations at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant in Old Town San Diego.  The location, widely considered by the paranormal community to be the most active in San Diego, is reportedly haunted by the spirit of a little girl and perhaps the wife of the former owner, Juan Lorenzo Bandini.  The episode is schedule to air in September.

Zak Bagans

Comic Con is, of course, all about the fans.  Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin (who make up the “Ghost Adventures” Crew) delighted fans by hosting 3 days of meet and greets and autograph signings.  The staff at the 2011 Comic Con was in no way prepared for the huge turnout of fans.  The signings were held in the Sails pavilion – a huge greenhouse-type ballroom upstairs at the San Diego Convention Center.  Hundreds of fans turned up each day and the staff and security had their hands full trying to keep up with the demand of folks trying to get a glimpse of their favorite Paranormal Investigators.

Nick Groff

The trio signed autographs for over 2 hours and met with fans young and old.   Fans brought gifts for the guys, including holy water, sage and protective necklaces causing Bagans to tweet “Am I possessed?”.  Many of the fans waited in line for over 2 hours just for a chance to meet their faves.  Nick, Zak and Aaron all said that they have the greatest fans in the world and seemed genuinely excited to meet everyone at Comic Con.

Aaron Goodwin

New episodes of “Ghost Adventures” start airing on the Travel Channel in September, check your local listings for times.

With the popularity of social media like Facebook and Twitter and the rampant use of Smart Phones, consumers are getting their television and films in different formats than in the past.  Viewers are changing the way that they view their entertainment and the industry is trying to adapt.  New media company Vuguru (www.vuguru.com) is leading the way with it’s innovative programming which is accessible from your computer or smart device.  Vuguru was founded in 2006 by former Disney Studio Chief Michael Eisner.

Rick Fox

Vuguru brought actors, writers and directors from some of their upcoming projects together to talk about working in the new multi-platform media.  Athlete turned actor Rick Fox discussed his new project “Off Season: The Lex Morrison Story”.  “Off Season” follows franchise basketball player Lex Morrison during his off season and his larger than life antics.

Ray Wise

Popular bad guy Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) was on hand to discuss his new post-apocalypic drama “Nuclear Family”. Wise said that he liked the idea that this New Media way of shooting allows the actors to”shoot more quickly than in a typical big budget Hollywood film”.  What may take months on a normal film shoot can sometimes take only days on “Nuclear Family”.

“LORD OF THE RINGS” and “Lost” star Dominic Monaghan also feels that this new way of shooting and distributing films is the way of the future. “Right now, there is a slight novelty value … to making a movie that is specifically made for an online release,” Monaghan said. “But I think in the next five to 10 years, everyone will be doing it and this film will be recognized as one of the forerunners. And that’s important to me.” The accelerated shooting pace and the quality of the script were also big draws for the star. Monaghan’s project, “The Millionaire Tour” is a dramatic thriller in which his character picks up a wealthy tourist at the Los Angeles airport and forces them to stop at ATM’s all over town to withdraw money.

The stars hosted a meet and greet with fans after the panel and Vuguru gave away two Ipads as door prizes for attendees.  For more information on Vuguru, visit www.vuguru.com .

Zachary Quinto

“STAR TREK” star Zachary Quinto and “True Blood” star Michael McMillian joined “Chuck”s Zachary Levi at Nerd HQ at the 2011 Comic Con in San Diego to talk comics and support Operation Smile.

Zachary Levi

Levi founded a website that he calls “a hub for all things nerd” called The Nerd Machine (www.thenerdmachine.com).  Having been to Comic Con as an attendee and seeing how little access fans actually have to their favorite stars, he decided to start Nerd HQ – a place for fans to be able to interact with the stars in a more low-key, intimate arena.  In addition to offering a unique experience, Nerd HQ affords Levi a chance to support his favorite cause, Operation Smile, which provides free surgeries to children suffering facial deformities around the world.

Zachary Quinto and his production company partners in Before the Door Productions and Archaia Comics donated their time to speak to fans about their comic releases “Lucid” and “Mr. Murder is Dead”.  Michael McMillian, who plays the Reverend Steve Newlin on HBO’s “True Blood” was also on hand to discuss the comic book he writes, “Lucid”.

Michael McMillian

The audience of about 200 people were appreciative of the off-con location at Jolt’n Joe’s Restaurant and the laid-back and intimate atmosphere.  “This is access that very few people ever get to their favorite celebs” an attendee commented. “Everyone is so cool and friendly and it’s a nice change from the hectic pace of typical Comic Con programs.”

Quinto and company took questions from the audience and answered questions about upcoming film and tv projects as well as Archaia’s newest release “Mr. Murder is Dead”.  The comic is a throwback to the old strip comics and is presented in a fantastic bound book that fans were going crazy about.

The panel was telecast live over the web for those that were unable to attend.  The celebs signed autographs and met with fans in a lounge area after the event.

As we see more events moving away from the San Diego Convention Center during Comic Con, Nerd HQ is the first on the block to offer fans access and allowing them to donate to a very worthwhile charity at the same time.

Complete self-indulgence! I have spent the afternoon watching amazing videos by River/Doctor fans. Matt Smith and Alex Kingston are so fun to watch (with a smattering of David Tennant).

How could you not love a love story like this one? River  jumps from a spaceship or throw herself off the side of a building confident he will be there to catch her. You hurt the Doctor and she will kick you ass. This storyline is pure crack for women.

Because that kiss just wasn’t long enough.

. Fixed that!  This is an remake of the clip.

Josh Gates, host of the popular Syfy show “Destination Truth” had a very full weekend at the 2011 Comic Con in San Diego this weekend.  After moderating the jam-packed “Sanctuary” panel, Gates attended the Syfy/E! Entertainment Pary at the Solomar Hotel in downtown San Diego.  There was also a fan meetup of “Destination Truth” followers that Gates attended with co-star Erin Ryder.  Even with all of the craziness, Gates found time to stop by Syfy’s “Cafe Diem” in the Hard Rock Hotel to grab a quick bite to eat, where he ran into fellow Syfy channel star Ben Hansen from “Fact or Faked”.

Yep, that trailer’s a bit strange (as you’ll see): But that’s only because the great people over at Doctor Who TV took that itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny short bit of Doctor Who that was part of a new, longer “Original British Drama” trailer from the BBC, and then proceeded to slow it down so we could see those awesome Doctor Who scenes better.

TV Guide Fan Favorites Panel: ‘Doctor Who’ Star Matt Smith Brings Down the House

Matt Smith, who is in his second highly-regarded season on BBC America’s Doctor Who, is experiencing his first Comic-Con. As the eleventh man to star on the long-running series, he had a challenge of stepping into some well-worn shoes. “For me, it’s quite remarkable to jump into something that already has a legacy. It started with William Hartnell, Patrick TroughtonTom Baker.” But after doing fan events both stateside and in his native Britain, “I now realize it’s quite popular,” he laughed.

This was an unheard of moment. A guest left fast talking Stephen Colbert speechless, more than once. To off set the homosexual theme Colbert employed a heterosexual accountability buddy. That fell a little flat.  Overall one of the top Colbert Reports.

When Colbert asked Savage if he had committed adultery his response, “Is it adultery if I am committing it at one end of a guy and he is committing it at the other end of that same guy?”  Savage sent Colbert running to his heterosexual accountability buddy.

Celebrity spokesduck Aflac “The Beak” Duck shown here at a Beads of Courage event appears to have a smoother more youthful looking beak.

Author’s note: I did inquire about the possible collagen rumor but have received no response.

Following in the footsteps of Jersey Shores Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino the AFLAC duck has taken to referring to himself  as “The Beak”. Best known for his work as spokesduck for AFLAC, a company named one of the best 100 companies to work for, “The Beak” has come under scrutiny for what appears to be a changed beak.

“The Beak” carefully deflected questions from reporters about possible cosmetic procedures he may have had done recently. Each question was answered by talking about one of his favorite subjects Beads of Courage Beads of Courage is a program “providing innovative, arts-in-medicine supportive care programs for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them.” Ducks throughout history have been known for the work they do to help children and AFLAC was quick to support “The Beak’s” interest in Beads of Courage.

Jean Baruch, developed the first Beads of Courage, Inc. program while working on her PhD in Nursing at the University of Arizona, College of Nursing. Her inspiration came from her clinical practice, and from her experiences as a camp nurse at one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camps. With the financial support of her family and friends, Jean developed and piloted the Beads of Courage Program at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in February 2004.

Go to AFLAC’s Beads of Courage page where you can support a child for only $5.00! Each seriously ill child will receive a Wingman Bead and the Encouragement Book.

“Your donation will remind a child that they are never flying solo, and that they have people standing beside them in their fight for life.”

AFLAC’s Wingman Bead was fashioned using  “The Beak” as their model.

This is an excellent band and vocalist. This is one group I am happy to put up. It doesn't suck.
This is an excellent band and vocalist. This is one group I am happy to put up. It doesn’t suck.

Sometimes I get videos emailed to me and oh do they suck ass. I am convinced you have to be a tad masochistic to deal with music. Some of the music I receive is pure crap. It is a dilemma. Do I put the video up and pretend someone somewhere must like the band, do I hurt the artist’s feelings by being honest, pretend the email never arrived or change my email address? I have slowly been transitioning away from music but this video got my attention.

These guys don’t suck.
