The Cast of the Lifetime show “The Witches of East End” took over the Tipsy Crow in San Diego’s Gaslamp district last week to celebrate being renewed for Season 2.  The show, which stars Jenna Dewan Tatum, Julia Orman, Madchen Amick, Eric Winter and Daniel DiTomasso, centers on the adventures of a mother and her two adult daughters, both of whom unknowingly are their family’s next generation of witches, who lead seemingly quiet, uneventful modern day lives in Long Island’s secluded seaside town of North Hampton.

Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson brought the beatdown while talking about their new film “Kingsman: The Secret Service”.  Firth said he was probably the last choice anyone would have to portray a “Bond-type” character, which made him a good choice for the role.  He said it was definitely the most physical training he had ever had to do for a role.  Samuel L. Jackson answered a reporters phone which was ringing during the press conference, much to the amusement of the room and the amazement of the person on the other end of the phone.

Zachary Quinto and Hannah Ware spoke about their film “Hitman: Agent 47” which opens February of 2015.  Adapted from the popular video game, the film was originally set to star Paul Walker, who was unfortunatley killed before production began.  The film shot in Berlin and Singapore and Quinto spoke about the differences in shooting in both cities.  The actors weren’t able to say much about the film itself so as not to give away too much of the plot, but they did assure us that the film is going to be very interesting visually.

Comic Con 2014 started off with a lot of star power on Thursday with a panel for the highly-anticipated animated film “Penguins of Madagascar”.  Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich were on-hand to answer questions from fans about their characters and the differences between acting on-screen versus doing a voice-over.

When asked how different it was recording in a voice studio from being on a film set, Cumberbatch said that the radio work and audiobook recordings that he has done in the past helped to prepare him for the role in “Penguins”.  Both Cumberbatch and Malkovich said that the biggest difference between a film set and a voice over shoot is that often times they don’t get to meet or be in the same room with the other actors until they are doing press for the film, and you don’t build the same type of camaraderie that you do on a film set.

Fans were also curious to know who Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich would like to play from the comic book world.

“Lois Lane?” says Malkovich.  “Nurse Normal?”  which got a big response from the crowd in Hall H.
“Anyone?” says Cumberbatch.  “Doctor Strange joke,” he mutters.  The attendees go wild and Cumberbatch  and Cumberbatch follows up with “Batman, I guess, yeah.”

NBC and Universal Television have announced their plans for the upcoming Comic-Con International gathering in San Diego, which runs from July 24-27.

Based upon the characters from DC Comics, “Constantine” reflects the lore of the fan-favorite comic, combining noirish storytelling with the evolving mythology of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), a morally challenged character who doesn’t come down on the side of either good or evil … but ultimately might be the only thing defending us against the dark forces from beyond.

There will be a huge presence for “Constantine” at Comic-Con, including at Gaslamp Square (Thursday-Sunday between the Hard Rock Hotel and the Convention Center) where a 3-D experience will immerse fans in the world of “Constantine.” Limited edition souvenirs will also be given away.

In addition to Spader, executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath will participate in the panel, which will be moderated by TV Guide’s Michael Schneider.

HANNIBAL

For the critically beloved drama “Hannibal,” which Vulture.com says is “unlike anything else on TV or anything that ever has been on TV,” the panel will include cast members Caroline Dhavernas, Aaron Abrams and Scott Thompson, as well as executive producers Bryan Fuller, Martha De Laurentiis, Steve Lightfoot and David Slade.
