The Cumbercollective Comes to the TCAs
From January 9, 2014 through January 23, 2014, the Television Critics Associations held their Winter Press Tour at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA. This press event spans two weeks and is held twice yearly, allowing television networks to showcase their current and upcoming projects, bringing forth their biggest stars to help promote them.
Surprisingly enough, the first day of PBS’ press offerings, held on January 20th, brought forth nearly every journalist in town for the TCA’s Winter Press tour. Unsurprisingly, however, is the reason behind why this happened: the presence of rising star Benedict Cumberbatch on the “Sherlock” panel later that afternoon. Along with the show’s star, the panel also featured show co-creator Steven Moffatt, producer Sue Vertue, and new cast member, Amanda Abbington, playing the role of “Mary Morstan.”

Of course, eager journalists were not the only ones excited about the day’s panel. News of Cumberbatch’s appearance spread like wildfire through social media, ensuring that a group of about 20-30 fans were camped outside the hotel for most of the day, some showing up as early as 6 AM for the chance to catch a glimpse of the actor.
For the Cumbercollective, previously known as the Cumberbitches, this was par for the course, many of them having attempted to meet the actor many times before, with varying degrees of success. And as with any event like this, the probability of actually meeting anyone was slim to none; busy schedules, travel plans, and publicists usually putting the kibosh on any fan/actor interaction. However, word from the “Sherlock” panel filtered outside through Twitter, where Benedict Cumberbatch was quoted as saying he would be signing autographs for the fans outside as soon as his obligations were done.

By the time 4:30 PM rolled around, many of the fans outside had been waiting for over ten hours, but when Benedict Cumberbatch came around and signed autographs and took pictures with everyone there, the waiting, all would say, was worth it.

Giving weight to the adage, good things definitely come to those who wait.

Heroes Reborn Comes To NBC In 2015

NBC is bringing back its conquering “Heroes.”

An iconic series that still commands a rabid fan base, “Heroes” will return to the network in 2015 as an event miniseries with original creator and executive producer Tim Kring at the helm, it was announced today by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes for a new stand-alone story arc entitled “Heroes Reborn,” with all details of storylines and characters being kept under wraps.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said NBC Entertainment  President Jennifer Salke. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

The original series chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. As the saga unfolded, they learned they were part of a grand plan that brought them together to change the world.

With the return of “Heroes Reborn,” NBC will launch a digital series prior to the 2015 premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines. This leveraging of social media is a way for fans to re-engage with what was one for the true pioneers in multiplatform storytelling.

The iconic sci-fi series, which ran on NBC from 2006-10 and was an immediate hit, ranked as television’s #1 new drama with an average audience of 14.5 million viewers during its initial season. The show was Golden Globe-nominated in its first year of eligibility for best drama series; it won the BAFTA Award for best international series, the AFI Award, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Saturn Award, two People’s Choice Awards and the Television Critics Association Award for Program of the Year.

“Heroes” remains one of the best-selling TV series on DVD of all time with more than 10 million units sold.

KSGAME_boxMock_flat_2

Today, IDW Games in cooperation with Pandasaurus Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for their first joint venture, Kill Shakespeare. The campaign’s goal is $25,000, and there will be a series of stretch goals in place that will make incremental improvements to the game for each milestone hit. With an amazing creative team in place and two world-class artists delivering the box and game art, this campaign is poised to be a huge success!

“We’re excited to give fans – both old and new – this early-bird opportunity to check out the board game,” said Anthony Del Col, co-creator of the Kill Shakespeare comic series. “This is the first game from IDW Games, and we’re blown away by how amazing it’s shaping up to be – they’ve done a fantastic job of adding to our already-expansive world. We’re glad that this Kickstarter campaign will allow audiences to get copies before anyone else, and we look forward to hearing back from everyone throughout the campaign.”

The first 250 people to back the Kill Shakespearecampaign will secure copies of the game at the deepest discount available. No matter when fans pledge during the campaign, the game will be offered $10 under suggested retail price with free or discounted shipping around the globe!

This campaign offers fans the chance to pick up additional content ranging from comics to lithographs to a set of custom dice. Stretch goals are in place to improve the quality of the game components as well as expanding game content to include more characters and quests.

“Kickstarter offers us a platform to truly connect with the fans,” said IDW Games Director, Jerry Bennington. “What’s being done on the site is amazing, and we’re proud to bring our project to the community. We invite backers to take an in-depth look at the game we’re delivering and to comment on what we can do to deliver the best possible tabletop gaming experiences. With this project, IDW will continue its history of delivering unparalleled quality, and I, for one, am excited to see what kind of stretch goals end up in the final box!”

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock stars reveal gay club scene was cut from “The Sign of Three”

The Independent UK is reporting that  a gay club scene involving the pair was cut from the last series.

“Doing the drunk stuff was lovely but I regret there was one bit of that drunk stuff that was missing,”   Martin Freeman  who plays Watson teased. “There was the gay club scene. Why didn’t that get in? We got mullered in a gay club and all these topless guys were going by.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock , joined in: “I had no idea why we were there and what it was and why they didn’t have their clothes on and then it dawned on me.”

The scene was cut from the pub crawl. Moffat said the scene drug on and on.

Cumberbatch said, “Errrr, errrr, errr….I can do that for two years,”

“I can’t wait for four or five years until we make the next episode,” added Moffat.

That’s just wrong!

Sherlock might not return to the BBC until 2016

“If people have to wait two years, they’ll have to wait two years,” the detective drama’s co-creator and producer told gaming website IGN.

When asked about Sherlock ‘s future, Moffat insisted he had “no idea”. “We’ll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality – that’s the thing,” he said. “It’s not the kind of show that turns up all the time, it’s just not. But the good news is, that probably means it will turn up sporadically for a very, very long while.”

Lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are in high demand following Sherlock‘s success, meaning shooting for new episodes will depend on their work schedules.

Moffat is a busy man too. He has just started with new Time Lord Peter Capaldi on the next series of sci-fi drama Doctor Who .

E! News Exclusive: Selena Gomez Feeling “Strong and Great” After Secret Rehab Stint – “She’s Never Been Better”

Selena Gomez had a big year in 2013—it’s no wonder that she needed some time to regroup.

The Ruddlerless star secretly completed a two-week rehabilitation program last month, E! News has confirmed. Gomez, 21, sought treatment at Arizona’s Dawn at the Meadows beginning Sunday, Jan. 5.

“There was no substance abuse,” a source tells E! News. “She just needed to clear her head.” Gomez’s rep previously confirmed the singer “voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.”

Gomez kept quiet about her stint in rehab during the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 20. She also appeared to be in good spirits at the Beats Music launch party on Jan. 24 and the Hollywood Stands Up to Cancer benefit on Jan. 28.

“She’s never been better,” the source says. “She’s strong and great.”

The former Disney Channel star canceled the Australian leg of her Stars Dance tour in December 2013. “It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first,” Gomez said at the time. “I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.” A source told E! News that the singer-actress “had been working non-stop for six years. She hit a wall.”

In addition to promoting Spring Breakers and Getaway last year, the multitalented star also released her debut solo album, Stars Dance. She completed her 55-date tour of the U.S. and Europe on Nov. 26.

Now that she’s taken some time off (and reconnected with pals like Demi Lovato), Gomez is getting back to work. She launches the Spring/Summer Adidas NEO label collection on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
