Disney Store today announced the all-new collections and Limited Editions set to launch at this year’s D23 EXPO 2015, Disney’s ultimate fan event held at the Anaheim Convention Center August 14–16. Located within the Disney Consumer Products Pavilion at D23 EXPO, the Disney Store shop will feature new and exclusive products showcased throughout more than 3,000 sq. ft. of retail space. New items celebrating everyone’s favorite characters will be unveiled each day throughout the weekend.

In addition to offering attendees the chance to shop special products not yet available to the general public, fans will also have the chance to meet the artists and designers who created these exciting new collections and be treated to the official Disney Store opening ceremony on Friday, August 14. During the ceremony, a special attendee will be chosen to “unlock imagination” at 9 a.m. alongside some of Disney’s most famous characters.

D23 EXPO attendees will get a first look at collections making their debut at the event, including the next installment of the popular Disney Fairytale Designer Collection; a Limited Edition Doll Collection from ABC Studios’ television series Once Upon a Time; Toy Story 20th Anniversary; and Disney Tsum Tsum.

Following the preview at D23 EXPO, the doll sets will be released and available for purchase in stores and online starting September 29, with a new pair released each week. Each set is limited to an edition of 6,000 globally and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

This line expands into a collection of apparel, mugs, journals, home décor and more, available to the general public in stores and online on September 14.

  • Once Upon a Time – Continuing the ‘heroes and villains’ theme, Disney Store will introduce the Once Upon a Time Snow White and Evil Queen Doll Collection, available exclusively at D23 EXPO. Steven Moffat – you love him….you hate him….you hate to love him.  The genius behind the reboot of the “Doctor Who” franchise and the smash success “Sherlock” inspires strong feelings in fans.  Moffat is also one of the busiest people in television, juggling two very successful shows that he produces, writing episodes and making appearances and talking to the press at events like the 2015 San Diego Comic Con.

Not only did he have two official Comic Con panels – for “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock”, there was also a “Sherlock” panel at Zachary Levi’s popular Nerd HQ which he attended with wife Sue Vertue and “Sherlock” Star Rupert Graves, and he still found time to attend the annual SherlockeDCC fan party with his wife and son at the San Diego Central Library.

Moffat was a special surprise guest at the party, which is an annual event held for fans put on by the Baker Street Babes, an all-female fan group (www.bakerstreetbabes.com).  Party-goers were delighted to see Moffat and wife Sue Vertue (also a producer on “Sherlock”) and son Louis come by to spend some time with them at the sold-out event.

Louis was in the “Sherlock” episode “His Last Vow” playing the young Sherlock Holmes.  Fans wanted to know what it was like being the young Sherlock and Louis said that he still had to audition for the role, even though his parents produce the show.  He said that he really enjoyed working with his parents and it was a lot of fun shooting the episode.

One fan asked Moffat if he had to kill off either Sherlock or Watson, who would he rather kill?  Moffat said that he thought it would be more interesting to see how Sherlock would react to the death of one of his friends.  “Watson without Sherlock, we have already seen that…how that would be.  Seeing how Sherlock reacted when Mrs. Hudson was threatened…..it would be interesting to see how Sherlock would deal with any of his people being hurt or killed.”

The question was posed that if “Sherlock” were ever to run out of original Arthur Conan Doyle stories, would they consider using any of the modern authors who have written stories about Sherlock Holmes as the basis for their storylines.  Moffat laughed “At this stage, given that there is so much original, and we make the show like the glacier that advances across Europe, we’re not in any real danger of running out. There are 60 original Arthur Conan Doyle stories….we have made 10. I think Arthur Conan Doyle could catch up with us and he’s dead.”

Moffat quipped to wife Sue Vertue when she commented on how slowly “Sherlock” is produced, “I do have another project I work on” referring to his other job as Showrunner and Producer on “Doctor Who.”

Obviously both Moffat and Vertue realize how important the fan base is to “Sherlock” and they clearly love the show and the fans to take time out of an extremely long day to spend with their fans.

As fans of the Walking Dead know, Terminus is not a place one wants to visit.  A place one hopes might be a sanctuary turned out to be a living nightmare of cannibalism, and one of the creepier characters in Terminus is Gareth, played by actor Andrew J West.  West was recently at the Walker Stalker Fan Fest in San Diego during the 2015 San Diego Comic Con to talk to fans and answer questions on his scary alter-ego.

When West originally went in to audition for the show, he had no idea what role they were looking at him for.  He knew the casting directors from other projects but he wasn’t told anything about the role.  He was given a random monologue that wasn’t even actually from the show, but the material was very dark.  He got the job and went in for wardrobe fittings but still had no idea who he was to play. Showrunner Scott Gimple called West into his office to tell him a little about the role but it was still a little vague.  West went and read the comics and figured out his character was based on “Chris” in the books and he grinned from ear to ear, knowing what kinds of things he would be able to portray onscreen.

West says that the Termites weren’t always bad people.  “Terminus started out as a peaceful community.  They invited people in and let them come and go as they pleased.  Then they (the termites) got overtaken and beaten down.  The Church (in the Termius set) serves as a reminder to them that they tried to create a peaceful community and they can’t ever go back (to that)”.

West sees Gareth as an “unassuming guy who wasn’t a born leader.  He would have preferred to defer to someone else.  He wasn’t a born Sociopath.  Gareth isn’t a full-blown Psychopath, he is a Sociopath. The trauma that he suffered led to a point where something switched in his mind. He feels that human beings aren’t as valuable as they once were.  And that is the most disturbing thing about Gareth.  Human life could never mean much to Gareth again.”

Fans were able to ask questions and one fan remarked that they had been told not to ask for hugs and West replied that he would hug the fan and the fan said he wouldn’t hug West.  West quipped, “I already had lunch what are you worried about?”  Another fan asked if Gareth had an Instagram what would be on it and West joked “food pics, artistic food pics”.

When asked what he had learned from portraying Gareth, West said he learned “some great seasoning techniques…..learned my way around a barbecue…..”  He said that the role also made him “think a lot about how to survive in an apocalypse” and that “we would all be surprised by how we would act in extreme circumstances.”

One of the better questions was from a fan who wanted to know if Rick had spared Gareth’s life, would Gareth have been able to change.  “No” says West.  “They (the Termites) wouldn’t have gone out of their way to hunt Rick’s group down, but if they crossed paths again, they would kill Rick’s group.  But they (the Termites) would keep doing things the same way that they had been, and Rick knew that.  That’s why he did what he did.”

Clearly Andrew J West was a great guest and a fan favorite at the Walker Stalker Fan Fest.

Saturday night of the 2015 San Diego Comic Con had more choices of things to do than any other day of the convention.  One of the most popular events every year is the Nerdist podcast hosted by Chris Hardwick which allows fans lucky enough to score a ticket the chance to see some of their faves being interviewed and interacting with the audience.  This year Nerdist hosted two podcasts, the second of which featured Tom Hiddleston and Director Guillermo Del Toro talking about their upcoming film, Crimson Peak and a host of other topics.

Tom Hiddleston, who is always a fan favorite was taking quite the ribbing from his director Guillermo Del Toro who would comment each time Hiddleston would answer a question with an “awwwww”, eliciting laughter from Hiddleston and the audience.  It is quite evident that the two really enjoyed working together and share a great camaraderie.

Speaking about their film “Crimson Peak”, which opens in October, Del Toro called it “not eye candy, but eye protein.  Because it’s beautiful but nutritious.”  Hiddleston was quite proud of the film as well, calling it “one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen, as well as the most beautiful one I’ve ever been in”.

Hiddleston also spoke about his upcoming Hank Williams biopic “I Saw The Light”, where he plays the tragic country star.  He sings and plays guitar in the film and delighted the Nerdist audience with his Southern accent.  The film opens in the U.S. in November.

My brother was forced to take me to the Saturday afternoon matinees. It was there that I learned to love science fiction. I still remember two things from “The Day The World Stood Still” (original black and white). Along with everyone in the audience I was trying to remember the words that would save the world, “Gort, “Klaatu barada nikto”.  The other was the space ship’s unbelievable technology.  The door would open when he approached the ship. He passed his hand over the console and everything came to life. Now the things that awed me are common.  When Harry Bates wrote about motion sensors did he predict the future by speculating where technology was going or create the future by planting a seed?

Stitchers shows you what “20 minutes into the future looks like.” Other shows have covered. Every. Possible. Earth in the future where there is no soap and water and everyone must stink plots. In the here and now science fiction the human brain is the perfect landscape for new ideas. We can reuse just about everything in the human body except the brain.

General Description

On Stitchers, a highly intelligent computer science grad student (Emma Ishta) is recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased. Using their memories, she’s able to help investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave.

I don’t write a review until I have seen a few episodes. Then I read a few reviews. Turns out, I didn’t know what Stitchers was about. Stitchers is described as a crime drama. A crime drama? Before reading the reviews, crime drama never occurred to me. They do solve crimes, but it is a science fiction drama.

There will be the inevitable comparisons to iZombie. They both have another person’s thoughts and solve crimes. The comparison stops there. iZombie is the zombie universe, which I do love, but is limited to some extent by basic mythology of the zombie culture.  Stitchers is forward thinking and relies on technology to boldly go into the next frontier of the human brain. The only limit for the show is the writer’s imaginations.

Stitchers writers have fun and never take themselves too seriously. Each episode is peppered with nerd references. There was a Doctor Who reference, followed by a quick Tolkien reference. For a woman (read that fangirl) whose desk is next to “It Is Not A Shrine, It Is A Tasteful Display of Tolkien Books And Movie Memorabilia” and a full size TARDIS standee this was pure squeee.

 Stitchers Vocabulary

Stitching: The process of inserting a living consciousness into the memories of a recently deceased person. By invading those memories, the living person can recreate the corpse’s last moments.
Stitcher: The living person inserting their consciousness into the corpse. Zap2itStitchers Glossary
Temporal Dysplasia: is a condition first described by Dr. Daniel Stinger and Dr. Edwin Clark in the late 1980s. Those who are afflicted by TD do not perceive the passage of time. The moment a temporal dysplasic experiences something it’s as if he or she has experienced that moment forever.
Temporal Dysplasia leaves the dysplasic generally cold and emotionless.  Dysplasics are often incapable of adequately feeling fear or misery, friendship or love; any emotion that draws its power from the passage of time.
Drs. Stinger and Clark first diagnosed the condition in a patient identified in their notes as ‘K.S.’ and were working on isolating the genetic markers for the condition when both suddenly stopped their work and retired from research.  Dr. Clark was a consultant living in Los Angeles until his recent death.  Dr. Stinger’s whereabouts are currently unknown. Stitchers Creator

Jeff Schechter   scored big with “Temporal Dysplasia” it threw the internet into a tizzy. It was explained in a way that it had to be real. It sounded real. People, myself included, hit Google during and after the show. They made it sound so real that I started to think I was missing something in my search.
Google had spoken.
If it wasn’t in Google it couldn’t exist, right?
Yet it sounded real.
*hanging my head in shame* the writers made me *gasp* doubt the all-knowing-Google!
Internet articles that followed the pilot went to great lengths to explain that temporal dysplasia wasn’t real.
One seemed pissed off, perhaps they too doubted Google.
It was hilarious.
Another definition of Temporal Dysplasia: “Goooood science fiction.”

The writers have me eating out of the palm of their hands. (It kind of grosses them out what with the spit, germs, etc. They have asked me stop.)

The Cast

Emma Ishta …  Kirsten
Kyle Harris  …  Cameron
Allison Scagliotti … Camille
Sola Bamis … Ayo
Ross Kurt Le … Alex
Cameron Britton … Tim
Ritesh Rajan … Linus
Salli Richardson-Whitfield … Maggie
Damon Dayoub … Detective Quincy Fisher

First episode, there she was, Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13). We didn’t know she was in Stitchers. My husband, nerd by marriage, and I both like her.

We don’t get out much, so seeing Scagliotti was an exciting moment. She started out as a mean roommate and rat for the agency that wanted to recruit Kirsten. Love Scagliotti. Her character Camille Engelson, not so much. I was disappointed. Fortunately, Camille changed. Scagliotti does snarky, funny nerd better than anyone. Camille is sassy, funny and we love her.

Kirsten has temporal dysplasia which makes her perfect to jump into another person’s memories. It also makes her unable to process feelings and emotions. She doesn’t respond correctly in social settings. To some extent Kirsten is a lost little girl in a grown up body. Stitching into the brains of other people, gave her first the taste of emotions and she isn’t quite sure how to handle them. She has trouble trusting people. Camille is teaching her how to process what she feels. They writers also like to tug at our heart strings. When Camille pulled back the blanket so that Kirsten could sleep with her it was touching.

The characters in Stitchers has learned they can’t trust anyone. Everyone they meet could have an ulterior motive.

My one criticism of the show is how they write for Kirsten. She is Spock. He was half human to make him less robotic and explain any “human” traits. Kirsten picks up emotions when she taps into a memory. The script seems to wobble just a little with her. They are almost there but haven’t completely pinned the character down.

There is one unanswered question that that needs to be addressed by the writers! What happens if Kirsten accidentally pees in the tank?

“Hannibal” was a big draw at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con.  Fans of the NBC show, called “Fannibals”, spent hours waiting in lines for panels and signings to meet the shows creators and stars.  Even though NBC has announced that the current season will be the last for the drama, they are certainly going out with a bang.

The Walker Stalker Fan Fest, which brings starts of shows like The Walking Dead together with fans, held a great event at Petco Park during the 2015 San Diego Comic Con last weekend.

Star Tyler James Williams who played beloved character “Noah” on the hit show spoke about the show, his life in showbiz and took questions from fans during his 45 minute panel.

William’s character, Noah, was introduced in the hospital in Atlanta where Beth was taken after being abducted.  Williams originally was only meant to be on the show for 3 episodes.  He was meant to die in the hospital but didn’t know exactly when he would be killed off.

He and Emily Kinney who played “Beth” on the show “didn’t set out to play the scenes as if there were a budding romance between them”, says Williams but “when I watched them when they aired, it looked like we did it on purpose”.

The cast and crew of The Walking Dead are a big family and whenever a character dies, the whole group feels the loss. Noah’s death was particularly heart-wrenching for both the creators and the fans alike.

Williams said that “when I got the script it wasn’t completely clear how he would die.  It just said “Noah gets ripped apart”.  I wasn’t sure what that meant.  When we got there on the day, we just worked it all out.”  Williams feels that when Noah says to Glenn “You have to go on”, it was a very important moment and meant more than just going on without Noah and leaving him to die, it meant that he had to continue to be a good person and fight for their way of life.

For the death scene in the revolving doors, they made a bust of William’s face by making a mock up with a material similar to that which they use to make casts and then creating a life-like replica of his face.  Williams has some selfies with the bust which he said was pretty creepy.  He also hasn’t really been able to go through revolving doors since shooting the episode.  He would be out with friends and he wouldn’t want to go through the doors and his friends wouldn’t understand it because no one had seen the episode yet and he couldn’t talk about it.

Everyone always talks about how The Walking Dead is a fantastic cast of actors and they have a great fanbase and Williams agrees.  He is “getting used to the Walking Dead world.  Once you are a part of it you are a part of it for life.  Years and years down the line, you will still be talking about it.” (talking about the show).

“There are great actors on this show.  Everyone is trained and focused. ” Williams says.  “When you have all of your characters driving towards one goal, that is when the show is the best. ”

Unlike other projects, the actors of the Walking Dead have no egos.  “The tone is set by Andy (Lincoln who plays Rick on the show) and he has no ego whatsoever.”.

“The fans are a big part of the show and are always very supportive and what makes the show so amazing” concluded Williams.

BBC Worldwide North America announced today that Doctor Who fans can soon own an extending Sonic Screwdriver universal remote control from The Wand Company, modelled after the Twelfth Doctor’s beloved gadget. The highly detailed and completely re-engineered working replica of Peter Capaldi’s iconic device will make its exclusive debut at San Diego Comic-Con on July 8, 2015 at the BBC AMERICA shop (booth #4129), before being released by selected retailers later in the summer. Individually laser numbered, the Sonic Screwdrivers sold at Comic-Con will each come with a signed certificate of authenticity, making them an ideal purchase for any collector. The limited edition numbered remote controls will only be available at the BBC AMERICA booth while supplies last.

The new Sonic Screwdriver has not only been updated to reflect the subtle changes in the Doctor’s coolest gadget, but now extends with a satisfying flick, just like the real thing, and includes a grip-mounted button, press-to-buzz action, and the Wand Company’s powerful Any-TV-Off functionality. The speech-teach feature makes learning the gestures and programming the Sonic Screwdriver easy, and the intuitive gestures allow the user to make like the Doctor and quickly take control of their home entertainment equipment – iPod docks, TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players, in fact, pretty much anything that is controlled by an infrared remote control. The 1:1 scale Sonic Screwdriver can store up to 39 remote control commands, is equipped with 12 authentic Sonic Screwdriver sound effects and a customizable personal lock code, and has 12 secret Morse code phrases from the Twelfth Doctor to decipher. Die cast in hand-polished, copper-plated metal, with a new stand that allows the Sonic Screwdriver to be displayed vertically, this device is not only a serious prop that will delight collectors, but with its host of authentic sonic sounds, it is also a cosplayer’s dream come true.

“The keen-eyed Whovian will notice subtle differences between the Sonic Screwdriver favored by the Eleventh Doctor and the one currently used by the Twelfth Doctor. We listened to fans’ requests and have evolved the design to match what’s onscreen, including the fun flick-to-extend feature,” said Chris Barnardo, co-founder of The Wand Company.

Former Playboy Playmate and star of “The Girls Next Door”,  Holly Madison signed copies of here new book “Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny” (Dey Street Books) at Barnes & Noble bookstore in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

In this shockingly candid and surprisingly moving memoir, this thoughtful and introspective woman opens up about life inside the Mansion, the drugs, the sex, the abuse, the infamous parties, and her real behind-the-scenes life with Bridget, Kendra, and, of course, Mr. Playboy himself, Hugh Hefner.
