New York – September 29, 2009 – The Wagner/Cuban Companies’ Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired North American rights to WONDERFUL WORLD starring Matthew Broderick. Produced by Glenn Williamson, Miranda Bailey and Matt Leutwyler, financed by Ambush Entertainment, WONDERFUL WORLD is the directorial debut of Josh Goldin, writer of Darkman, another Matthew Broderick vehicle Out on a Limb, as well as the script for WONDERFUL WORLD. Magnolia will release WONDERFUL WORLD on VOD platforms one month prior to its theatrical release as part of its Ultra VOD program, aiming for a theatrical release in early 2010.

 

In this sometimes moving dark comedy, Broderick plays Ben—a failed children’s folk singer and less-than-extraordinary weekend dad.  Deeply cynical, Ben’s sole pleasure in life is derived from chess games with his Senegalese roommate Ibou. When Ibou is suddenly struck ill and an insensitive municipal employee exacerbates the emergency situation, Ben’s pessimistic worldview seems unequivocally confirmed. But when Ibou’s sister Khadi takes his place in their apartment, what starts as an awkward living arrangement becomes something more, and Ben finds that cynicism may be all a matter of perspective.

“Josh Goldin is a talented screenwriter and judging by his first feature has real directorial chops,” said Eamonn Bowles.  “Matthew Broderick is great as always – we’re pleased to add WONDERFUL WORLD to Magnolia’s slate.”

AFI FEST ANNOUNCES HALLOWEEN PROGRAMMING

Los Angeles, CA, September 29, 2009—AFI FEST 2009 presented by Audi today announced films scheduled for Halloween, all of which celebrate horror genre. Joe Dante’s THE HOLE, Sean Byrne’s THE LOVED ONES, Ted Kotcheff’s WAKE IN FRIGHT and Michael Stephenson’s BEST WORST MOVIE will screen on Saturday, October 31 at the Mann Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood.

 

Presented in 3-D, Joe Dante’s family friendly thriller THE HOLE marks an auspicious return to the big screen by the celebrated genre director after 11 years. In the film, two young brothers stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that houses an evil force that can create a physical manifestation of their deep-seated fears. After unwittingly unleashing the force, the brothers must team with the teenage girl next door to find a way to defend themselves against the darkness. The film stars Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett, Nathan Gamble, Bruce Dern and Teri Polo.

 

THE HOLE will mark the first time a feature film has been presented in 3-D at AFI FEST or it’s precursor, Filmex since Paul Morrissey’s FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN in screened in 1977. Michael Medaglia’s short film THE RATSNITCH ANGEL was presented in 3-D in 2006.

 

The Midnight Madness Audience Award winner of this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Sean Byrne’s THE LOVED ONES is an Australian thriller about a troubled high school senior who finds himself trapped in a bizarre “prom” and fighting for his life after he is abducted by a psychotic father-and-daughter pair. The film stars Xavier Samuel (who will star in ECLIPSE, the third installment of the TWILIGHT film saga), Robin McLeavy, John Brumpton and Victoria Thaine. THE LOVED ONES screening will be sponsored by Fangoria Entertainment.

Also hailing from Australia is Ted Kotcheff’s underground classic WAKE IN FRIGHT. Originally released in 1971, the film was nominated for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s great, lost films. Recently recovered and restored, the film is a brutal and uncompromising thriller about a young teacher who arrives in a rough outback mining town planning to stay overnight before catching a plane to Sydney. However, his dealings with the hard-drinking, violent locals and a harrowing kangaroo hunt plunge the man headlong toward his own destruction. The film stars Donald Pleasence and Gary Bond.

Michael Stephenson’s documentary BEST WORST MOVIE looks at both the behind-the-scenes origins of TROLL 2 and the film’s journey to become a cult classic years after its initial release. Two decades later, Stephenson, the legendarily inept film’s child star, unravels the improbable, heartfelt story of an Alabama dentist turned cult movie icon and an Italian filmmaker as they try to come to terms with this genuine, internationally revered cinematic failure.

Also screening on Halloween will be the previously announced South Korean Academy Award pick, Bong Joon-ho’s MOTHER and the acclaimed RED RIDING TRILOGY of films.

When I heard Kaylah Marin’s voice I thought, “Sexy!” and “modern day Lena Horne” popped into mind. She has a James Bond, tuxedoes, champagne, crystal chandeliers and slinky snake skin tight dress  kinda voice that easily transitions from Motown  to jazz to hip hop on her CD “Loving Life”.  This amazing CD has something for everyone.

I don’t want you to think that this CD is retro, it is not, it is just that as a music purist Marin’s voice is so dynamic it forces me to think about  Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and dare I say it my favorite group of all times The Staples Singers.

“Everybody” is my favorite track on the CD. Marin nails the song with a full bodied voice as bold as a fine wine. Marin can get you out of the dumps, off your rear and up dancing. She hits notes that makes my vocal chords ache in sympathy.

Everybody should buy Kaylah Marin’s “Loving Life”. If I gave stars on a scale of one to 10 this CD would be a solid ten.

“BEER WARS” COMING TO DVD SEPTEMBER 22ND

“BEER WARS” is an exploration of the U.S. Beer industry and the fight between the major companies and the many micro-brewers that are fighting for a share of the profits. 

Filmmaker Anat Baron has a unique perspective on the industry as she was the General Manager of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and helped to grow their brand.  Baron appears in the film as a kind of guide to take the viewer through the massive Anheuser-Busch facility to smaller brewers like Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and New Century Brewing Company.

The film exposes many aspects of the brewing industry that many people will be surprised by.  Do you know how the beer gets into your local pub or liquor store?  The system is mind-boggling and fascinating.  The connections between brewing and politics sheds light on just what a powerful industry this is.  The film uses a great deal of advertisments and footage from the history of brewing in the U.S. and provides a nostalgic look at the history of the country as well.

How do you cope when your spouse dies and leaves you alone to raise your son?  This is the question at the center of THE BOYS ARE BACK, starring Clive Owen. Based on the memoir by Simon Carr, this enchanting film is directed by Academy Award nominated director Scott Hicks(SHINE).
Clive Owen plays Joe Warr, a prominent sports writer who travels so often for business that his relationship with his young son is virtually non-existent.  When Joe’s wife Katy passes away, Joe is forced to take over raising his young son Artie.  Joe is at a complete loss – unable to do laundry or housework or even prepare a decent meal.  When his son from a prior marriage decides to move to Australia to live with his dad and younger brother, Joe now has to balance work and raising two young boys.  This proves to be a challenge in ways he never dreamed.

Star Clive Owen discussed what first attracted him to the film. “Parenting is a big part of my life.  The first draft of the script explored this part of my life from a male point of view.  Many films have been done focusing on a father raising his son.  Adding the teenage boy from Joe’s first marriage took it somewhere else.  It was something I hadn’t seen before.”
THE BOYS ARE BACK is a very emotional film with an amazing and realistic look on life and loss.  “I loved that it was terribly moving with out being overwrought.  Humor is very important to the film.  The emotions can take care of themselves.  I wanted to make sure the humor was in it.”  Owen says.  He also feels that the film will have a wide appeal.  “Anyone who has lost someone, all parents….” will relate to this project.
Director Scott Hicks echoes this “Very few scripts profoundly touch you – this did.  I felt it was articulating feelings I have never seen in a film.  The way that Artie can’t articulate his feelings about what is happening to his mother is very real.  It is clear that it is written by someone who understands a 6-year old boy.”
It was clear from the beginning that casting the two young boys was crucial to the success of the film.  Clive Owen believes, “A lot rests on the young boy.  It’s a lot to put on the shoulders of a young boy.  I was thrilled when I saw the tape (of Nicholas McAnulty).  He was different – a bundle of unpredictability.  I knew he would infuse the film with real life.”  Director Hicks agrees. “Capturing a 6-year old on film was like lightning.  You only have a short period of time to capture it before it starts looking rehearsed.”  McAnulty and Owen spent a lot of time together offscreen to forge a bond that would come across onscreen.  “I knew it was important for him to trust me.”  says Owen.  “We went to wildlife parks and fun fairs, just the two of us.  You as the audience have to believe that we are father and son.”
George MacKay, the British actor who plays Joe’s older son Harry, also forged a bond with McAnulty.  This is evident by their onscreen relationship.  Clive Owen has nothing but good things to say about George.  “He is a lovely guy.  A very fine actor.  He is a key ingredient to the film.  He is mature beyond his years.”
THE BOYS ARE BACK is a touching film that deals with death and how the living must continue on.  It is funny and emotional without being contrived.  Scott Hicks has a specific wish for people who see this film.  “I’d like for people to come out of the film and hug their children or reconcile with their children in some way.”
THE BOYS ARE BACK is released by Miramax film.  It is rated PG-13 and opens in limited release on September 25th.

Jane Campion’s BRIGHT STAR hits Theaters September 18

 

NEW YORK–September 16, 2009— In celebration of the release of Jane Campion’s Bright Star and as an homage to the love affair passionately captured in heartfelt correspondence between a then unknown poet John Keats and his stylish “minx,” Fanny Brawne, Apparition has launched a national online user-generated contest for the most romantic love letter or “Little Tweet Nothing” presented by A Diamond is Forever (ADIF) and Montblanc.

 

The love letters between British Poet John Keats and his muse, Fanny Brawne are legend, and have been fodder for romantics for almost two centuries. Written and directed by Academy Award winner Jane Campion, Bright Star centers on this grand romance and stars Ben Whishaw (The International, I’m Not There) as Keats and Abbie Cornish (Stop Loss, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) as Brawne. The film, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to astounding audience response, will open September 18.

The Paley Center for Media wrapped up it’s 2009 Fall TV Festival last night in Beverly Hills.  ABC presented several of it’s new shows to a sold out crowd. 

A reception preceded the event, sponsored by Nutrisystem and TV Guide.  Stars and creators were on hand for a Q&A session before the screenings commenced.

“Hank”, a somewhat lackluster and disappointing half hour comedy from Kelsey Grammer kicked off the evening.  The show revolves around a CEO who gets fired from his job and has to move his family to Virginia and take a dramatic cut in lifestyle. “Hank” premieres on ABC on September 30th.

Patricia Heaton’s new show “The Middle” centering on a suburban family in Indiana and their attempts to make it provided a welcome and hysterical break.  This one camera show has a fantastic cast and writing that provides something that nearly every family can relate to – the struggle to make ends meet. “The Middle” premieres on ABC on September 30th.

The highly anticipated “FlashForward” screened and is sure to be one of the breakout hits of the coming season.  The show begins with everyone in the world blacking out for 2 min and 17 seconds at the same time.  In the blackout, everyone gets a glimpse of their future.  The show stars Joe Fiennes, John Cho, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, Dominic Monaghan and Jack Davenport.  “FlashForward” premieres on ABC on September 24th.

Los Angeles, CA, September 16, 2009—AFI FEST 2009 presented by Audi announces 12 films that will screen at this year’s Festival (October 30-November 7) including Lee Daniels’ PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE, Werner Herzog’s THE BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS and Bong Joon-ho’s MOTHER.

 

The film festival, which will debut it’s groundbreaking “See a Film on Us” initiative featuring complimentary tickets to all films including a limited number of seats at each Gala Presentation, will be headquartered at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel between October 30 and November 5. AFI FEST will then move to Santa Monica for the final two days of screenings presented in association with the American Film Market (AFM).

 

Lee Daniels’ PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE is the first announced Gala Presentation at this year’s AFI FEST. Set in 1980’s Harlem, the film tells a story of salvation through education against all odds as it follows the hopeful trajectory of ‘Claireece Precious Jones (played by newcomer Gabourey Sidibe), an overweight and illiterate teen pregnant with her second child and abused by her poisonously angry mother. The film also stars Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sheri Shepherd and Lenny Kravitz. PRECIOUS will be released by Lionsgate on November 6.

 

AFI FEST 2009 will also mark the return of Werner Herzog to the Festival after Herzog’s celebrated panel appearance two years ago. Herzog’s THE BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS is a loosely interpreted re-imagining of Abel Ferrara’s gritty classic starring Nicolas Cage as a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is to scoring drugs. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). The film also stars Val Kilmer.

 

The Festival also welcomes back Bong Joon-ho (following the screening of THE HOST in 2006). The South Korean entry for the Academy Awards, Bong’s MOTHER is an inventive thriller that follows a woman’s personal investigation into a murder in order to clear the name of the accused – her son.

 

Two French/Italian co-productions, A PROPHET and VINCERE will also be presented to Los Angeles audiences for the first time. Jacques Audiard’s A PROPHET traces the journey of a young Arab man, who becomes a mafia kingpin after he is sent to a French prison. Marco Bellocchio’s VINCERE is a biographical drama that tells the story of Mussolini’s secret lover, Ida Dalser and their son Albino. 

 

Also included in the list of film titles announced today are the latest work by such noted auteurs as acclaimed French New Wave director Claude Chabrol (BELLAMY), Ken Loach (LOOKING FOR ERIC) and Harmony Korine (TRASH HUMPERS).

 

“These first dozen titles offer a wonderful preview to our lineup which is a survey of the year’s significant films. They represent a diversity of voices and we take great pride in being able to bring them to Los Angeles audiences for the first time,” said Rose Kuo, AFI FEST Artistic Director.

Set in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is to scoring drugs — while playing fast and loose with the law. With the prostitute he loves, the couple  descends into a world marked by desire, compulsion and conscience. The film also stars Eva Mendes and Val Kilmer.

 

BELLAMY (France)

Director: Claude Chabrol

A famous French detective (played by Gerard Depardieu) on vacation in Languedoc investigates a mystery man who approaches him claiming to have killed someone. The film also stars Clovis Cornillac and Jacques Gamblin.

 

EVERYONE ELSE (Germany)

Director: Maren Ade

Drama follows the volatile relationship resulting from the psychological and emotional ties between two young lovers.

 

THE LAST STATION (UK/Germany)

Director: Michael Hoffman

A historical drama that illustrates Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s struggle to balance fame and wealth with his commitment to a life devoid of material things. The film stars Helen Mirren, James McAvoy, Christopher Plummer and Paul Giamatti.

Eric, a football fanatic postman whose life is descending into crisis, receives some life-coaching from a poster of the famously philosophical footballer, Eric Cantona.

SPIRIT OF THE SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK, LIVE OAK, FLA – The 3rd Annual Bear Creek Music and Art Festival returns to the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Florida Nov. 13-15 for three days of music, art, camping and community as fans from all over the nation gather along the banks of the famous Suwannee River for the fall’s final musical celebration.

The peak autumn weekend is packed full of high-energy, upbeat and danceable music highlighted by the festival’s trademark sounds of more than 50 performing bands with a dozen groups offering two entire shows.

Among the featured bands performing twice include New Orleans’ contemporary funk institution Galactic; acid jazz sax-master Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe; the swamp funk of Crescent City natives Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk; the UK’s hottest, funkiest export The New Mastersounds, West African primal swing of Toubab Krewe; world music psychedelic dub/reggae collective Dub Conscious and the full frontal assault of funk jazz all-star collective Lettuce.

Legendary Music Record Executive Bob Greenberg passed away Friday, September 11 in West Hills, CA after suffering a stroke the day before. Greenberg’s career in the music business spanned over 50 years and included posts at Warner Brothers, Atlantic Records, Mirage Records and United Artists Records where he worked with artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Foreigner, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Aretha Franklin, ABBA, Bette Midler and many, many more. He was also the respected President of the music trade Hitmaker’s Magazine. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, two sons Brett and Kirk, brother Jerry and daughters-in-law Nancy and Austin. Services will be held Tuesday, September 15 at 3 p.m. at Chapel on the Hill, Forest Lawn, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills, CA. Charismatic country-rock singer/songwriter Steve Richard is “Stomp”ing everywhere this summer–on tour with superstar Craig Morgan and while performing solo dates at country dance clubs where his latest single “Stomp” has sparked a new country line dance sensation.

Now, fans who miss these shows can still “Stomp” thanks to an exciting new branded “Steve Richard Stomp”video game based on the song, which is currently being played on more than 110 stations nationally and rose to #67 last week on the Music Row CountryBreakout chart.

Richard has released the game to country radio and other online partners. The interactive experience allows players to choose the dancers to be included in a virtual music video. Some of the dancers’ moves are based on the choreography of Barry Amato, who created the “Steve Richard Stomp” line dance.

Participants simply click on a dancer they want to see eliminated and watch as they get “the boot.”

Each participating radio partner will get a unique game for their website which will include their station logo. A high score chart will also be included for localized contest promotions.

Richard has also toured nationally as both a headliner and opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Dierks Bentley, Montgomery Gentry and Van Zant, among others.

Bulford is seeking submissions for new t-shirt designs. The more clever and creative, the better. Bulford is especially looking for a clever slogan for these t-shirts.

Bulford offers this for inspiration, “I want a shirt that everyone would want to wear. Not just to a show, but that when you buy it you feel like you made a good purchase. I don’t want people to buy a shirt they’ll just keep in their drawer. Don’t forget, I’m from Florida so beach, fishing and hunting themes are welcome. Project Lionheart Frontman And Producer Caleb Cunningham Is The Former Drummer And MC Of Popular Touring Pop-Hip Hop-Punk-Reggae Band The Mob Law

Most high school graduates from the U.S. who can afford to travel spend that first summer out of school in places like Mexico or Europe. But Caleb Cunningham, frontman, songwriter and producer for powerhouse hip-hop ensemble Project Lionheart, knew it was time to start getting his groove on. So he took off from his adopted hometown of Seattle to study the drums in Dakar, Senegal.

While returning to West Africa several more times over the next few years, he split his time Stateside drumming in a local reggae band and building an arsenal of hip hop beats and songs. He thought he hit the big time a few years later when he scored a gig as the drummer and MC for The Mob Law, a group whose fusion of hip hop, rock, punk and reggae earned them a huge following in Seattle and the chance to record an EP and a full length album, Hold Us Down.

Driven by Cunningham’s fiery rhythms and onstage charisma, The Mob Law became so popular that they went on the 50 college East Coast jaunt as part of National Lampoon’s Disorientation Tour. But for the drummer and musical visionary, accolades and adoration aside, something important was missing: true musical focus.

Gathering the massive arsenal of beats and original material he had accumulated over the years, Cunningham left The Mob Law in 2007 and finally got serious about developing the Project Lionheart concept he launched as a “hobby project” back in 2001. Hooking up with longtime friends, onetime Mob Law guitarist TJ Berry, bassist Jarrod Keith (who Cunningham knew from his first reggae band) and Senegalese percussionist Thione Diop, Cunningham launched his new purely hip hop driven band.

Project Lionheart’s upcoming release The Art of Resistance (Special Edition) on Seattle based indie label Sound Records features remixed and remastered versions of all of the tracks from the group’s debut album, which they originally produced and pressed themselves, in addition to four brand new cuts.

With digital distribution by Universal affiliated distributor In Grooves, the revamped 14 track album now includes star-studded feature performances by Canibus, popular MC Crooked I, members of the Wu-Tang Clan, Wu-Tang Clan associate and producer Bronze Nazareth, well known Seattle rapper Damon Kollar and singer/beatboxer Blake Lewis, runner up in the 2007 American Idol competition.

The group began performing in the Seattle area in January 2008 and quickly built a following while working on their debut album. In addition to regular “home base” gigs at The Nectar Lounge, Project Lionheart has also performed as part of the Rock The Bells hip hop tour at The Showbox and regional hotspots like The Wild Buffalo near Western Washington U. in Bellingham.

“One of the biggest reasons for shifting gears in my career and starting Project Lionheart is that I wanted to shake off the drums and take center stage so I could really connect with the audience,” says Cunningham. “I also wanted to get beyond the whole hybrid rock reggae hip hop thing that defined The Mob Law and have a group with a singular vision as hip-hop artists. I basically brought my stockpiled songs in the studio and infused these electronic beats with real guitar, bass and some sax, which TJ also plays. The idea was to create socially relevant, politically charged songs with a mix of great beats, raps and singing.

“We chose the title The Art of Resistance as my way of communicating to fans and listeners to stop and think about their lives and the world around them,” he adds. “I’m not a teacher or a politician, I’m an artist, writer and musician and this is my way of expressing what’s on my mind and impacting people’s lives. I’ve learned over the years that music can be as powerful a force as politics to bring out issues that need to be addressed, things like those I am touching on here like the prison industry and the way children are being raised. Though I ran away from reggae, I approach my craft like Bob Marley, making socially conscious songs that are also fun to sing along and dance to!”

The infectious, sharp grooving “The Way We Live” featuring Damon Kollar is a unique overview about our society and makes specific points about TV, the prison industry, the need we have to impress our neighbors, the war in Iraq and, as Cunningham says, “little things that piss me off.” The track rolls like a cool conversation, bouncing back and forth between Kollar and Cunningham. The set also features a remix of “Heart of the Lion,” a mission statement about being a badass and not staying stuck in the mud of your life; it’s got a new gangsta beat behind raps by Cunningham and Crooked I. Among the new tracks are the fun club anthem “Light Up The Darkness”; “The Rain,” a funky, destiny fulfilling spin on poetry and wordplay with members of the Wu Tang Clan; a track about the “Ancient Art” of being an MC, performed with Canibus; and “My Eyes,” a melancholy tune about learning from your mistakes featuring the vocals and inimitable beatboxing of Blake Lewis.

Much of the celebrity pull on The Art of Resistance (Special Edition) comes via the connections of the guys running Sound Records, which signed Project Lionheart in early 2009.

Launched in 2008, Sound Records is the vision of partners/principals as president and VP, respectively. The independent startup already sports a roster of established and emerging artists from the rap and pop/folk-rock worlds, including Keith Murray, Canibus and Bronze Nazareth.

Sound Records took shape when Noah Hartkopf, manager for Ken Stumbo’s successful, Seattle based property management collection agency IQ Data, was in Phoenix on business and met members of the Wu-Tang Clan in his hotel lobby. After talking music with them, Hartkopf suggested the group get in touch when they visited Seattle the following week.

Hartkopf and Stumbo received a random call three weeks later from Wu-Tang Clan affiliate, the Grammy Award winning de facto leader of the group, about possibly investing in a recording project. This inspired the two to follow through on something they had discussed in the past: launching their own record label. Deriving its moniker from Seattle’s nearby Puget Sound and tying in as well with the city’s storied musical legacy, Sound Records was born.

“Since we signed with them, our mission has shifted slightly to allow for crazy and wonderful collaborations with the greatest hip hop artists and minds we can find,” says Cunningham. “I’ve learned that making great hip hop records and putting on amazing performances is about much more than one person. It’s about a whole community, working together and supporting each other. Sound Records backed our goals in a big way and opened doors for us to work with incredible artists like Canibus, who I grew up listening to and admiring. To having guys like that now want to work with me is beyond my wildest expectations. It’s everything any of us have ever dreamed about.”

The historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood was the site of an important one night only benefit play reading to bring attention to the issue  of Gay Marriage.  Director Brian Shnipper brought together an outstanding list of playwrights and actors in 11 short plays that all touch on the issue of Gay rights as they apply to marriage.

“STANDING ON CEREMONY – THE GAY MARRIAGE PLAYS” showcases works from Gay and Straight playwrights alike and touch on a variety of issues from adoption to health insurance to religion.

Playwrights Susan Miller, Jordan Harrison, Nancy Nyman and Heather McNama, Marcus Gardley, Jeffery Hatcher, Constance Congdon, Kira Obolensky, Terrence McNally, Wendy Macleod, Albert Innurato and Jose Rivera contributed works that are funny and poignant.  Some hammer their points home while others show their message in a more subtle way. 

The benefit was sold out for weeks and a diverse crowd packed the house to support the cause which was backed by EQ/CA and the Human Rights Campaign.

Boggy Creek out due to band member’s accident. Common Ground to play Sept 12 show.

SPIRIT OF THE SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK, LIVE OAK, FLA – The Boggy Creek Band regrets it has to cancel its performance at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park Sept. 12. The cancellation is due to the lead guitar player‘s hand being broken in an unfortunate accident while loading equipment at another event! But, never fear music and dance lovers, the show will go on with Common Ground, a North Florida band enjoying great success at the SOSMP.

The Music Hall will open at 6 p.m. Saturday night with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.

As always, the SOS Café and Restaurant will have available at regular prices delicious food and beverages during the evening.

Universal City, CA-—Ten films, selected by industry judges from well over a hundred eligible entries, have been posted for online public voting in the “Halloween Horror Nights-Chiller Scary Good Film Competition,” offering filmmakers an opportunity to have their scariest short film rewarded with a broadcast on Chiller of their work, a $1,000 cash prize and a trip for two to the October 2 opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

         Voting is open to all members of the public at www.HalloweenHorrorNights.com/Chiller.   Only one vote per person may be cast.

Prospective filmmakers were invited to submit short films of 90 seconds to three minutes in length.  Selected films were first judged by a panel of horror industry professionals with storytelling skill, originality and the degree of the “good scare” used as criteria.  Finalists were selected by three industry judges: “Saw VI” Director Kevin Greutert, Syfy’s Executive Vice President of Programming and Original Movies, Thomas P. Vitale and Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy. Entries were received from every part of the United States and the ten finalists represent five states, contrasting styles and varying degrees of experience and technical skill.

The winning “Scary Good” film will be announced on September 25. In addition to the prize and the Chiller broadcast of the film, the winning filmmaker will be honored in front of celebrities, studio executives and media at the October 2 Chiller-Eyegore Awards ceremony, which will kick off this year’s all-new Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Hollywood.
