Tonight’s “Law and Order: SVU” finale promises a lot of action, a lot of drama, and a lot of tears. The episode, entitled “Surrendering Noah”, will finally bring Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) season-long struggle to adopt baby Noah to a head.
Executive producer Warren Leight spoke about the role that the infamous Johnny D (Charles Halford) has in affecting Benson’s adoption of the infant.
“Unfortunately, we know the biological father of baby Noah is Johnny D, who is the worst of the worst rapist sex traffickers that we’ve seen, and raped Ellie Porter, Noah’s mom, when he had enslaved her. He’s an all around bad, bad guy. He’s going to try to claim that the reason NYPD is focused on him is because the sergeant is attempting to adopt his kid and he stands in the way of that adoption, so they want him put away. All he has to do is create a little bit of reasonable doubt in one juror and he’s free. If he’s free, he can then petition to end the adoption of Noah. He sees NYPD as having ruined his life, so he’s going to ruin Benson’s if he can,” the executive producer explained.
As if all of that weren’t enough to deal with, the SVU squad is also facing a possible mutiny. Some of the Detectives are determined to relieve Benson of her position as Lieutenant. If you have seen the trailers for the show, you know that there is a possibility that one of the squad won’t be coming out of the season finale, but Executive Producer Warren Leight says that while there will be some “huge surprises” in this season finale, they should all be cleared up by the end of the episode. “I hate to give away there’s not a cliff-hanger because the stakes are pretty high, [but] for the most part they wrap up by the end of the episode, ” says Leight. “It’s clear that after the finale, the squad will not be the same.”
Law and Order: SVU airs on NBC tonight at 9pm
