Marvel Studios brought out their heavy hitters for last weekend’s D23 Expo in Anaheim. After skipping this year’s San Diego Comic Con, fans were excited to see what the studio had in store for the Disney fans.
Following their presentation of a video message from Benedict Cumberbatch and concept artwork from the highly anticipated “Doctor Strange” (see article https://www.cfmnews.net/2015/08/19/benedict-cumberbatch-talks-doctor-strange-at-d23-expo-2015/), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced Anthony Mackie who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Captain America/MCU franchise. Mackie said that he had brought some footage from the film which is currently in production to share with the audience. Mackie then paused, stating that you “can’t have a Captain America panel without Captain America!”. Star Chris Evans then came out onto the stage to huge applause and a standing ovation from the packed audience.
Evans, who is a self-confessed Disney geek, was happy to be at this year’s D23 expo and even stopped by Disney’s California Adventure park before heading to the airport to jump on a plane back to Berlin, where “Captain America: Civil War” is currently filming.
The footage from the upcoming film looks amazing. Fans are going crazy over the Captain America/Bucky Barns (Winter Soldier) footage – particularly a scene where Captain America and Bucky are on a mission together and a scene with a line from Crossbones that “he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky.” If you listen closely you can hear the fangirls squeal with delight all over the world.
There was also a particularly cute scene with Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the just released film, going complete geek over meeting Captain America. The trailer also showed Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Junior (Iron Man) and a quick glimpse of Martin Freeman who is new to the franchise.
Marvel has said that they will not release the footage shown at the D23 Expo but we will see if it creeps up online. The film Captain America: Civil War is set to hit theatres May 6th, 2016.
